  • Oxford University is the second oldest in the world, and was established way back in 1068. What actually  opened, that was Kebble College, which is just one of the 39 Colleges of Oxford University. Also significant during this year, would be the Elementary Education Act, which set the Framework for schooling of all children between the ages of five and twelve. The British Red Cross was established to be the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded in War, too! It's also great how married women are now entitled to propety of their own, thank thy, Parliament!

    Boar war

    South African War/ Boer War/Second Boer War/Anglo-Boer War/ to Afrikaners, also called Second War of Independence

    • Boer war. The British  Empire against the descendants of the Dutch settlers (=Boers) in the Transvaal region of South Africa.

    • Important for the  British empire because the war highlighted the limitations of 19th century military methods, employing for the first time modern automatic weapons and high explosives to decimate the enemy.

    • The British won 

    (the Boers derived from the Afrikaans word for farmer)




    • Apparantly, throughout the years of 1899 to 1902, the Second Boer War was fought, unsurprsingly between the Boer Republic and the British Empire. It originally begun after the downfall of the supposedly agreed to terms of the Bloemfeintein Conference, which was enforced in order to properly deal with British migrant workers who mined gold fields in South Africa. I wouldn't exactly call it sensical progress to demolish a good chunk of a country over some gold. The British made use of concentration camps and scorched earth policies, destroying any and all that might be useful to the Boers. In that exact time period, I guess they got to test out some new weapons? In the long run however, it lead to the defeat of the conservative government, as the concentration camps, among other military tactiques, caused quite some public backlash and outrage. As the war went on an on, it didn't get any less expensive. The victory of the Boer War ended up costing taxpayers well over 200 million pounds, meanwhile over 40% of military recruits were unfit for duty, and public health was at an all time low. TL;DR: Suppose they got a liberal goverment out of it?

  • The actual Irish Free State was formed in the December of 2022, but was based off the Irish-Anglo-Treaty, an agreement between Great Britain and Ireland which ended the Irish war of Independence the previous year. The Irish Free State is not to be confused with the Republic of Ireland, but operated as the basis of the latter.

    • The Free State was established as a dominion of the British Empire. It comprised 26 of the 32 counties of Ireland
    • English monarchs began to fret that rival powers like Spain or France might use Ireland as a launching pad for an invasion of England itself.

    • A general election in November and a change in the leadership of both parties(liberal and conservative) 

    • first year of the Great Depression (Great Slump.). The value of British exports halved, plunging its industrial areas into poverty: by the end of 1930, unemployment more than doubled to 20 per cent. Public spending was cut and taxes raised, but this depressed the economy and cost even more jobs. The United Kingdom by then, was unfortunately far from fully recovered from the first World War, and the Goverment found itself in a political deadlock, which didn't help the situation

    • The Swinging Sixties was a youth-driven cultural revolution that took place in the United Kingdom during the mid-to-late 1960s,  emphasising modernity and fun-loving hedonism, with Swinging London as its centre. It saw a flourishing in art, music and fashion, and was symbolised by the city's "pop and fashion exports".
