Staying along the Travel and Tourism Course, I would like to be a flight attendant when I grow up. I see myself greeting passengers as they board, and directing them to their seats, alongside using the safety instruction and deliver it to those flying before departure. The qualifications you need to become a Flight Attendant are: you are at least expected to have a Grade 4 or above in English and Maths GSCE, and you must pass a medical check. Personal qualifications: you need a decent level of fitness, have interpersonal skills, communication, show willingness to attend interviews, and the ability to accept criticism that you will face along the way.

So far on the Travel and Tourism Course I have learnt about public, private and voluntary companies. I wrote down companies which I thought belonged to each topic, and we also learnt about their backstories, such as private companies normally run on profit, where public is run on those who visit and their money. Voluntary is someone who can visit but doesn’t have to. Below I am attaching images from the PowerPoint of which I worked from

I have learnt on this course so far the key people in the Travel and Tourism Industry, such as baggage handlers, aircraft dispatchers, cleaners, caterers, engineers, passenger service agents, meet and assist, flight crews, custom, immigration, police and refuellers. I provided information on each one.

I have also, on the Travel and Tourism course, wrote a page and a document of a company. This included the company’s objectives and aims, revenue, interrelationship, and ownership. I chose UK’s Ryanair and uploaded facts regarding the above topics. This is helpful as I now know more about the company and will now know what to search for in a future task.

3 things I must improve on to prepare for the job I have chosen

1. I think I need to improve on my knowledge. As said the previous tasks where I was set on searching for a certain company and T&T positions within the industry helped me. I think now I must expand and understand every aspect of what I have signed myself up for.

Though progress is being made, I still need additional support and reassurance in handling criticism. I am aware that in such a role as a Flight Attendant, you will face criticism of character. I think I must understand 100% what I will face in the near-future and prepare myself.

To fully grasp and focus on my work head-on. I am fully committed to completing any assignment I am given, and now I must make sure that I continue this way.

Maths GSCE

In Maths, I have been working on Multiplying and Dividing Fractions, as well as Adding and Subtracting Fractions. This has gone well and I fully believe I can pass this topic. I have also done some Century Tech and as directed by the teacher, begun aspects of revision at home.

English GSCE

In English we have been scanning and answering a text. It’s a story of a 17-year-old high school student from Atlanta, Georgia, who was writing to Martin Luther King. He explains that he was racially picked on by a police officer. This was an interesting text and definitely helped my language and punctuation.

We have also been learning in English how to write our texts and paragraphs in our exams, and our style of answers to each question in the GSCE paper in November.

Tuesday 26th November, 2024.

Target Grade: Merit

Work Placement: I will be doing my work placement at Dearne Valley Care Home in Rotherham, which is where a member of my family works. I have also contacted local businesses in my area to discuss a potential change should that not stabilise.

Skills: I think I have developed working skills. I can now look at an assignment, proof read it, and believe that I can complete it. I also believe I have learnt travel and tourism skills. I’ve been introduced more into the industry and know what to expect and take part in certain projects. This includes collaboration, leadership, adaptability, communication, and teamwork. You must work under these when leading the safety demo for example.

Behaviours: I believe that I can stay on task more than what I may not have done before. That includes ignoring distractions, handling criticism when getting work sent back, and knowing how to complete work independently and in a group. Me personally understand that assignments must be met before or on the deadline and that’s a top priority for me.

Enrichment: I have attended assignment workshops in the library and elsewhere, where I have completed assignments and where I shared ideas toward the work. Myself, alongside a few other people, also plan to hold a bake sale and raffle event at Honeywell in December to raise money for local and public charities. Above I will attach an image of a banner that we will be using at the event. We will also attempt to relate the event to travel and tourism by adding Travel related tickets and gifts.
