On April 18, 1775, Joseph Warren, a physician, heard from an informant that a British infantry was coming to arrest revolutionary leaders John Hancock and Samuel Adams. He sent two messengers, Paul Revere and William Dawes to warn them and other colonists about the invasion. They did this quietly because there were soldiers already hidden in the hillside. The next day, 700 British troops arrived at Lexington and Concord and were met by 77 militiamen. The militia's aim wasn't so good however, because 8 of them died and nine more were injured while one Redcoat wa injured. The British went to Concord looking for arms but they had already been relocated. They burned the little bit that they found and was leaving but were met by hundreds of militia. The British fired first and this was known as " The Shot Heard 'Round The World." The British tried to retreat back to Boston but ran into almost 2,000 militiamen and war ensued.
