First Ski Trip: By Claire W Wind slaps my face Tears blur the pictures whipping past me However, I am not crying Suddenly black is all I see My cheeks grow colder and colder I push myself up; looking down, my skis are gone Click! Click! Back on Again with the wind and world No Too fast Wide turn right Snow Envelopes My Vision Laughter comes from up above My cheeks melt the snow stuck to them My eyes look down, embarrassed Determined I try again Failure A voice from behind “Need any help?” It asks I turn A boy with wavy caramel hair Ocean eyes Tan face “Yes! Thank you so much,” My lips say He tells me to kick the snow off my shoes On one foot I wobble Grab his shoulder for support “I’m Jamie” “I’m Maya”

THE HALLWAY The green lockers were shining I dodged a group of basketball players Then there were soccer girls dribbling through the hall Don’t forget the swim team, wet from their morning practice We were in the athletes wing This is every morning Our shoes squeaked on the floor Not because it was wet outside, Because we we passing the art wing of the school There is normally at least one form of paint of the floor I hopped over a picture made out of oil pastel. I started seeing mats on the floor The Gymnastics Wing I said bye to Bella I saw instrument cases on the floor My Stop The Musician wing

It starts as a vibrant light,
Then slowly dimming into an empty bulb.
But in the dark glass there is always a way out,
To make it into the light again….

Smiles on faces,
Music cramming into your ears,
Shadows cast by the bright demeanor of a happy family.
Rich in love they dance,
In their eyes you see,
The wonderful world inside and out.

Nobody is perfect,
No family lives in peace of the entirety of life.
There is always something lurking in the dark.
A family rich in love,
Rich in Happiness.
A family of three,
Shortened to two.

And life begins again.

The once bright light is now dimming,
A flicker here and there,
Joy sprouts in their mind as a replacement comes,
He is nice and kind,
Just not as the last.
He fills the hole,
Even though there are still gaps,
But the light still shines.

Trust is earned in everybody.
Although it can still be broken with a snap.
The family about to be mended,
Is betrayed by no other than the mender
A family who had still had its wealth,
About to get back the love,
Had it taken,
And much more.

The girl.

The girl is affected the most,
She has lost most.
But she felt the feeling of losing hope.
Of memory.
Happiness.
And love.
And that's what broke her.
She is in a empty bubble.
Once filled with light.
Now with sorrow.

They travelled far,
To make anew,
A place where they can lose all of their memories….

And they started to.

And that's when the girl thought she found an angel.
She didn’t look like one,
But through the girl's eyes,
The angel was the one thing that could bring her back to the light.

The angel.

The angel was perhaps over 80,
And a little crazy.
But that’s what helped the girl
She sometimes had a little too much wine,
Or skinny pop, she couldn’t see the difference.
She was crazy for sure.
Maybe a little too much,
But that’s what helped the girl.

The girl.

She observes her angel,
She spends most of her time with her.
She is funny as a crackpot,
But her light is the biggest,
Shining through every crack,
Slipping into the corners of the girls lonely aura.
The angel tells the girl a story.
Her own story.
The angels story:
She is born alone,
In a nice family.
But death comes along,
And she is now totally alone.
Her life remains that way,
Until today,
When she met a girl.

The girl saw that they had a lot in common,
And that’s when in the next few days,
She thought of her as her own grandma
The very light which she loved dearly.

Mom.

She wasn’t so sure about this angel.
Could she trust her?
Is she safe?
Will my daughter like her more than me?

She didn’t want to lose her last treasure,
If she did,
She would be nothing,
Floating
In
An
Abyss
Of
Nothing.

That’s when she new what to do.

The girl.

This is what she heard eavesdropping on her mom:
Yes...I would like to file a mental report...yep, my neighbor...what does she do?...ok…all she does is sit and eat candy and wine... my daughter goes there repeatedly, she adores her...but she is-the grandma- exposing her to wine and trying to give her some… she is unsafe for my daughter and she doesn’t-yes, the grandma- she doesn’t know what she’s doing.
It’s hard to watch her cry,
As she listens to the lies.
But she is scarred and strong from her past.
She gets up and decides that she will not sit and cry when her friend is in danger.
That's when her bulb pops,
And shatters exposing the light that was once hidden,
It reaches her like a tsunami.
The vibrant colors of her love,
And her compassion.
And she sets out to find her angle and save her.

The angel.

She new she was going to die.
She felt it.

She let the girl tug her,
Even though she wouldn’t make it down the stairs.
She fell hitting her leg,
She felt the bone snap,
Yet she didn’t cry out.

The girl came into her view,
Frantic and shaking.
The girl was yelling at her,
But the angel only had time for her words:

You were the greatest gift I ever received,
May your life be happy and fulfilled.

Goodbye.

Oh the colors.
That’s what came first.
Like a mixing pot all around her,
Colors she’s never seen.

And then she was no more.

Yet the light still glowed.
