Is technology limiting creativity in children? - Jessica VH

No one can deny that the world has changed. Technology has become the biggest thing in the 21st century. It has been created and shaped to benefit our every need and help us become more productive. Humans have always expanded and changed things but, have we gone too far.

I believe that as a human race we should work to keep creativity alive and technology does not help with this matter. Creativity is often first seen in children, when they play they first develop that skill. They can also develop the skill through drawing, arts and crafts, writing, building and more. The spark of creativity that used to light up a child's world has however slowly over the years start to fade. Rather than going outside and playing make believe, children have now become lazy (both mentally and physically) in a way that not only has their play decreased. Prep teachers are now shocked to see that children don't have general skills such as hand eye coordination because they don't do simple creative activities such as drawing and using scissors. These skills have dropped dramatically over the last 10 years ALONE. Children constantly use technology (such as I pads and I phones) to watch videos, play games and go online. Recent studies show that over the timespan of 4 weeks, about 95% of 8 – 11 year olds have had access to the internet and that children aged 8 – 16 spend an average of 6 and a half hours a day on technology. Where is the space making that creative spark when you’re always on some sort of screen? Creativity takes time and focus, both which are currently wasted on technology.

In conclusion, I believe that technology use has decreased the spark of creativity in children as they spend most of their time on it and don’t focus on creativity shown through playing, arts and crafts, ect.

Should same sex marriage should be legalised?

Same sex marriage has been in debate for several years in Australia.
From 1884 to 2004 the marriage of two people, not concerning gender could be legally married. 2004 was when John Howard amended the marriage act to read “marriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life. Certain unions are not marriages. A union solemnised in a foreign country between: a man and another man; or a woman and another woman; must not be recognised as a marriage in Australia”

before John Howard changed the definition of marriage it did not matter what sex the two people were. This amendment set Australia back in time compared to other countries.

Allowing same sex couple to marry would bring more family harmony. If the two are happy together why make them feel isolated and out of place due to their sexual preference. In Australian law it is said that discrimination against someone because of their sexual orientation is not allowed. Then why is the government itself making the LGBTQ community feel isolated and not “the norm” as they cannot get married.
In conclusion why should The Australian government decide wether two people who love eachother be able to experience love in any way different to a significant amount of other Australians.

School should start at 9 am and finish at 3pm and not 8:40am – 3:30pm because we would get more time to get ready for school and we can come back early so we can relax more and do our homework (if we want to). It is also too long to be at school for almost 7 hours as it gets very tiring.

Schools shouldn’t force students to wear uniforms - Jiss

School uniforms are a waste of money it takes away the right for students to express themselves, School uniform and policy are limiting students choice on what they can wear and the way they look. Not only that families with financial problems will struggle.

Schools think enforcing dress codes and uniforms will stop bullying but in reality it doesn’t, the uniform someone wears doesn’t change the person personality. I think the Schools are doing this for publicity. Schools shouldn’t enforce students to wear School uniform.

Conserve or Exploit: Hnaish

Introduction?
Ever since the planet was inhabited by living creatures, we have become dependent on things that exist in nature. These natural things are very useful to mankind and allow us to survive and thrive in a harsh environment. The most useful of these natural resources fall into two categories. Renewable or non-renewable. Renewable sources such as water and wood are extremely helpful to us. Non-renewable sources such as coal, natural gas and oil can succour us in our economic development. Due to their overwhelming dominance over mankind, resources are being overused and are in the verge of being exhausted. This is a critical situation as resource depletion has a major affect over our coming generations. We must conserve the resources we have, as we must think ahead to a better and brighter future
Why are natural resources so important?
Natural resources are absolute vital to the preservation of mankind. All economies depend on the contribution of these resources to have a successful development. Resources such as fossil fuels, have constituted and stimulated massive expansion in technological developments. This is because they provide us the energy needed to manufacture and maintain our cities. Without these resources, no production will be able to take place. This will detriment our ability to improve our wellbeing and hence affect how we live in the world. Exploiting our natural resources will infect the environment in which we live. By abusing the power of these resources, we are putting not ourselves and ecosystem but jeopardising the future of the earth itself.
How can we preserve our natural resources?
To provide an environmentally sustainable secure future for future generations, we need to transform using habits by completely changing the way goods and services are produced and consumed. Outlined below are two simple ways we can help protect the future of natural resources:

· Recycling- Via recycling we can reclaim the important minerals lost in the process of manufacturing. Recycling can also reduce the ecological footprint on the environment as the same resources can be used again in different objects (Please refer to figure 2 for an analysis on paper recycling).

· Teaching- Via teaching the poorer nations, more help can be gathered by organisations on restoring the environment and limiting use of resources. Teaching can help everyone learn of the consequences of exploiting natural resources and how we can preserve them for the future.

What will happen if we run out of natural resources?
Our world today as we know will never be the same. The world would not be able to supply a good lifestyle for its citizens. With the crisis of natural resources many economies that are dependant on its assuage, will fall into a great depression (Please refer to figure 4 for data on resource consumption). Listed below are three major effects of losing natural resources.

· Energy sources- Without energy there will be no fuel. People who rely in transport will have impediments. There will be no way of providing electricity to residential areas which will

· Conflict- As the world exhausts its resource supplies, demand will rise. Economies will start to become possessive of their resources. As a result, wars will erupt to seek who has possession over a stock of resources.

· The Earth- The release of the highly toxic carbon dioxide will dilapidate the atmosphere. Consequently, the Earth will rise in surface temperature resulting in a dramatic metamorphose of the environment.
