The Marriage of Figaro is one of the most prominent operas in the standard operatic repertoire and appears as number 5 on Operabase's list of the most performed operas worldwide for the period 2005-2010.


The plot takes place in Seville (Spain), during the second half of the 18th century, and is located in the palace of the Count of Almaviva. Rosina has already become his wife, the countess, but the count seeks the favors of young Susanna, who is the fiancée of Figaro, the count's servant. The plot is complicated when the count of Almaviva discovers that his page Cherubino shows a lot of interest in the countess, and therefore wants to get rid of him by sending him to war.
