Theatre Technology in the Classroom by Brooklyn Seward

As a theatre educator, I find it difficult to find any technologies to use specifically for fine arts classrooms. What do you think we could do as technology leaders to include fine arts classrooms in new tools for technology?

I love using padlet for my visual arts class. It's easy to throw a question on a pad, let the entire class answer for a starter question, and then spend a few minutes discussing what the students thought about it.

I have also used it like a virtual art show. Students call all post their work on the same padlet and then add comments and suggestions to others' work!

The lighting tools, and computer choreographed music and lighting accompaniment that we have available today is amazing and it really helps theatres put on successful shows consistently. Also sound tech has improved in incredible ways and makes this type of art far more accessible.

I think students should be taught with the tools and technology that now performances use. It could benefit them in the students career to know how to use these technologies. For example, how the lights should be places, and what to click to create certain effects during a performance.

Some of coolest tools I have seen in the fine arts department were all technology. In my high school we had gotten a brand new Fine Arts theatre, and with that came all of the fancy lights and technology to run them. I think my favorite part would have to be the lights and how they program them with a computer to follow and move with people and how they use the lights in different ways in the plays.
