The music session, was out of my comfort zone.

Without any question, I have the same sense of rhythm as a dead fish.

And on top of that all, I had to concentrate very hard to keep up.

But, I enjoyed that everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Today I learned that music connects people. I also learned that drumming can help you switch off your thoughts and focus entirely on the rhythm. Finally, I realized again how powerful music is in bringing people together.

Today I learned about Gwo Ka — a traditional music genre and dance from Guadeloupe, created by enslaved people and carried through generations. It has seven distinct rhythms, each telling its own story.

I even got to play the Ka drum myself, and realized I do have a sense of rhythm! There’s something incredible about how playing the Ka drum demands your full focus yet fills you with pure joy at the same time.

What struck me most is that with music, there are no age limits — young and old, we formed a beautiful orchestra together.

One of my favorite moments was when a young boy asked to take a picture with me. Just like that, my favorite photo was made — a true highlight of the day.

Today, I took part in an activity centered around Gwo Ka music. It was my first time playing the drum, and honestly, I didn’t quite know what to expect. What I discovered was powerful: sound has the ability to connect us with the rhythms and frequencies of nature. Playing together allows the mind to let go of thoughts and releases energy through rhythm. It’s a journey into something ancient and grounding, where collective music becomes a form of emotional and spiritual expression.

This morning, I had a unique experience participating in a group session led by a skilled facilitator, where we explored the theme of sound and rhythm through music therapy. At first, I relied on my accounting mindset to keep the rhythm, counting beats to stay in sync. But gradually, I let go and allowed myself to be carried by the flow. Sound and rhythm merged into one, and I no longer needed to count—I simply surrendered to the experience. It brought a deep sense of connection, not just with those present, but with something much larger. It was a beautiful and enriching moment that left me feeling grounded and uplifted.

Today, I learned to embrace something new, even though I honestly wasn’t very open to the drumming course at first. Overall, the experience was very positive. I learned that music has an impact on both the body and the mind.

It was also interesting to notice how my own skills improve when fully focused and carefully listening to the given rhythm.

Additionally, I learned that local lunch is different from what I know from home. This experience was also a positive one.

Today, the drum spoke.

In Guadeloupe, among wind and memory, I learned to listen to the body dancing with music within.

Each beat, a breath. Each vibration, a story.

The stretched skin of the drum told our voice:

an ancient voice, woven with roots, culture, and self-discovery.

I played with others, and in the shared rhythm I found harmony:

between the self and the collective, between the heartbeat and the pulse of the earth.

It’s a bit of a cliché to say that music brings people together, but I think we truly experienced it today. People of all ages and from different cultures united in a shared rhythm. The music connected us beyond words. It was a moment of real harmony.

Playing the drums near the underground forest and learning the history of the place was a unique experience building up the image how people lived in this place.

The time I enjoyed the most was playing together with Edgar's students. You don' t need words to do something big together.

Today I‘ve learned, that music can have different frequences. Also the earth has a frequence itself. The drums we have played with are originally from Africa but have been built by barrels instead of wood.
