I am Kassidy Keefer and I was born here in Carthage New York on a 400 cow dairy farm. But when my parents first found out they were pregnant my grandma was so excited hoping it was a girl, because my parents didn’t find out what they were having and my uncle had 3 boys. My mom had picked one girl name Gracie and one boy name Kaleb. My dad didn’t want to pick a name until the baby was born because he wanted to see what the baby looked like. When my mom had me, my dad said I didn’t look like a Gracie. So my parents went through baby books and still couldn’t decide on a name. My mom was in the hospital for 5 days and they still couldn’t agree on a name. I was baby Keefer, they went through magazines, books, tv shows and my dad went home and looked through old baby books. Then my mom went through a magazine and saw Cassidy and my dad said he liked it but with a K. Plus when my mom was growing up she loved the partridge family with David Cassidy and his brother Sean. They they had to decide on a middle name. My cousin Ashley was there and said “ Marie please, because that’s my middle name.” My parents liked it because it went with Kassidy. As I grew up, I was the youngest of the grandchildren and the only child so needless to say I was spoiled one. I grew up going to Carthage kindergarten to junior year. Since I was little I always said I wanted to be a teacher, but I had teachers in elementary school tell me I was to dumb and would never be able too. So since I was about 7 years old I had no confidence in myself, I always second guessed myself with everything I did/do. Until the day I met my sixth grade reading teacher. Mrs. Craig is the reason I changed my mind and realized I can be a teacher no matter what anyone says. She is a motivator always pushing but in a good way. She always told me to follow my heart and do what you love to do. She taught me to be myself, be kind-hearted, to love what I do, and push myself through all the struggles. Mrs. Craig is the reason I chose my career to be a teacher, I want to be an impact on a students life like she was to mine.

- counting numbers ( 1-9...)
The last number we say when we count a set of objects tells us the total number of objects in a set.
*Place valve means that the quantity that a digit in a number represents depends on the position of the digit in the number.
- Teachers must repeatedly draw children’s attention to the role that ten plays.
Rounding: To round a number in base ten means to find a nearby number that has fewer ( or no more ) nonzero digits.

Chapter Reflection

Backward-Looking: When starting this chapter I remember some of things from doing some internships in kindergarten and 1st classrooms a couple years ago.The things I did not remember I retaught myself. I have learned and gained a lot of knowledge from this chapter.
Inward-Looking: I learned that I get frustrated really easily when it comes to figuring things out and doing everything electronically. I am so use to writing everything down on a piece of paper or looking through the textbook directly. Going through the IPad and having to teach myself everything to understand was very difficult.
Outward-LookingThe one thing I want people to notice when they look at my work, is that this is knew to me and I have been teaching myself.
Forward-Looking: One thing I would like to improve upon is to not get so frustrated when using the iPad.

Backward-Looking: I knew a lot about this topic, before doing this chapter. I feel like it’s hard to forget something that we have repeated every year of math.
Inward-Looking: What I found frustrating about this topic is it was difficult to find the exact notes.
Outward-Looking: I did my work similar to how other people did there’s because I used examples and described each one throughout my video.
Forward-Looking: One thing I would like to improve on this is, learning how to use the iPad better when it comes to the mathcast.

The most important mathematical concept I learned in this course was numbers and the base-ten system. I feel this concept was important because there was alot to go with this chapter. I never was taught it the way I was taught in this class, so it was different and a little harder to learn for me.

One non-mathematical concept I learned from taking this course, was learning my own way of being taught something. I realized that I do not work well with technology like with the iPads, I’m better working from a piece of paper.

The one part of this course I did find most helpful in improving my mathematical reasoning is working in groups. I feel the group work was really useful because we got to meet and work together with different people.

The one part of this course I found least helpful in improving your mathematical reasoning is all the class activities we did, I felt like that never helped me with any of the lessons. The class activities, I felt they discouraged me more then they helped me.
