Netiquette is a sub category of Digital Citizenship for online use. Netiquette is solely about how to properly interact with others online whereas Digital Citizenship has nine elements, one including netiquette. The elements of digital citizenship are the ways for students, teachers and adults to properly use the internet. Digital Citizenship educates all on keeping online use safe for yourself and others. It teaches people how to deal with buying and selling goods, what you should or should not click on, your rights and the laws online to follow, proper passwords and citations when taking things from internet. Futhermore, digital citizenship teaches people about the precautions taken to be respectful and responsible when dealing with others online.

This lesson idea was on Commonsense education. I feel the coloring book is beneficial because it educates in simple terms what digital citizenship is all about. I added the book to show emphasis on how technology can run our lives and have us unintentional ignore others and the world around us. Students are learning at an early age how time consuming it can be when going on the internet and that neglecting other people's feelings is wrong. They learn to appreciate people and the things around them.

Reading News Online by Commonsense education

This lesson idea was on Commonsense education. I shortened it by conducting a class discussion and having the students research a topic online and tell me the information from articles is a valid source or could lead to a dangerous site. I think the video is important for fifth graders because it can prepare the students for online projects in their future classrooms and to understand whether or not a website, article, or site used online is valid or dangerous. It is important to teach our students how to use the internet safely and know who or what to trust.

After, we will sit on the carpet and I will read them a story. "If you give a mouse an iphone" by Ann Droyd. Ask them questions like "What would your outfit be if you were a mouse?" "Why does the mouse go on the iphone?" "Where would your friend take you to have a break from technology?" "Why does the mouse stop using the iphone?" Then have them draw a picture of a time when they were happy taking a break from technology.
