The conflict started as tension between the Arab Muslim controlled North and the Christian or Animist South. The country of Sudan was created as a colony of England. After independence in the 1947, tensions grew because of government representation and the first Sudanese Civil War broke out in 1955 because the Northern Arabs controlled the money and political power. By the end of this 22 year civil war conflict wasn't just about economic and political benefits, it became an ethnic hate between the groups. The second civil war was a result of conflict over the Natural resources in the South. It lasted until the the U.S. intervention, and the signing of the peace treaty, dividing the North and the South into two countries, in 2005. Today, ethnic conflict still exists in the middle regions, especially in Darfur, where extremist Muslim groups like the Janjaweed murder, mutilate, and rape refugees, or raid for resources.

The nation split into two in 2011 due to this conflict (Sudan and South Sudan), and Darfur is still facing issues with ethnic conflict today. This conflict affects the world because refugees are fleeing to other countries.

World Involvement

The United States has sent a strong UN peacekeeping force to Darfur. US was also the largest provider of foreign aid to Sudan during their second Civil War. Other than these efforts, no other nations offered much help to the conflict happening in Sudan. I think other countries should get involved to help the issues still going in in Darfur. The country has come very far since the start of their first civil war but still have major conflict happening every day.

Can it be resolved?

I think the conflict can be resolved eventually because they have improved drastically since the start of the first world war in 1955. To resolve completely they will need more foreign aid from other countries working together.
