NHS England is recruiting six young people (aged 13-23 years old) to the national Children and Young People’s (CYP) Board, which supports the work of the CYP Transformation Programme.

Young Board Members (YBMs) share their experience and knowledge to help improve national policy and service design. This is an exciting opportunity as YBMs can make a difference to the healthcare provided to children, young people and their families across England.

We are looking for young people with different skills and experience. Being inclusive is a fundamental value of NHS England and we are looking for a diverse group in terms of age, race, gender, sexuality, lived experience and geographical location.

We encourage anyone who is passionate about improving health services for CYP and has experience of using NHS services to apply!

About the role

YBMs will:

• Attend CYP Board meetings. These happen once every three months.

• Prepare and share a presentation with the other YBMs at every board meeting.

• Support other young people working with the NHS such as the NHS Youth Forum and NHS Youth Advisory Network.

• Represent the CYP Board at national events. This may include chairing sessions or presenting.

Applicants will need to be able to commit to an average of four hours every month for this role. This is dependent on the additional opportunities you get involved in.

Compassionate Conversations is a free awareness training session delivered by St Elizabeth Hospice.

Compassionate Workplaces - At St Elizabeth Hospice, we appreciate that workplaces play a fundamental role in the support of employees affected by bereavement, loss and long term illness.

Compassionate Workplaces is a free 2 hour awareness training session delivered in person (preferred) or online if needed, that is focused on helping employers support their workforce when experiencing loss and bereavement and also to give guidance to HR teams around the development of organisational practices and policies.

The session is a really practical introduction for anybody (especially line managers and HR teams) that will help build staff confidence and competency, while supporting better long-term outcomes for businesses -See our upcoming sessions

Brook’s tools and online courses prepare you to be proactive at identifying safeguarding concerns, to use your professional curiosity and confidently manage situations to safeguard a young person.

Proof of postcode will be required at registration. 

The project is about supporting those young people in a IP2 postcode area aged between 15-24 years of age, who requires a cycle to overcome issues and boundaries to get to school, college or employment opportunities. 

Dates: 9^th, 10^th & 11^th April building the bike. 

               12^th April testing the bike at a venue to be agreed.

Learning Outcomes – Sensitive Conversations

1. Participants will identify the importance of having open and honest conversations with young people to offer support and guidance tailored to their individual needs.

2. Participants will identify ways to provide young people with opportunities to explore a range of life changes and the feelings associated with these changes.

3. Participants will gain confidence in initiating sensitive conversations using the skills learned during the session.

4. Participants will discover effective ways to talk to young people about loss, including death and dying, to provide comfort and clarity.

5. Implement strategies to support and prepare children when facing the potential loss of a loved one.

This session has been developed with young people in mind. It challenges some of the myths around domestic abuse and the causes, discusses the impact of the 2021 statutory guidance that places a duty of care on organisations and looks at what they can do/are doing to safeguard individuals.
The session also covers:
• How to spot signs that a person may be experiencing domestic abuse
• What a healthy relationship should look and feel
• How to respond to disclosures
• How an organisation can contribute to safety planning
• Signposting for support and how Lighthouse adds value to organisations in Suffolk

Myself and colleagues from the University of East Anglia have been commissioned by the Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East of England to undertake a scoping exercise exploring research capacity in the region. ARC East of England is a project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to promote greater research capacity and collaboration in the East of England. 

The scoping exercise aims to establish who is involved in delivering children’s social care within the region and what barriers and facilitators they experience in engaging with and using research. These contacts will be useful for the ARC East of England and NIHR to look at ways they can support increasing research capacity in the region. 

We would be grateful if you could spare 5-10 minutes to complete a brief survey on your involvement with delivering children’s social care and your organisation’s relationship to research. Who Can Apply: 

- Interest/Experience: Demonstrated interest in education, research, youth engagement, and/or advocacy. Experience in facilitation, workshop delivery, STEAM, or advocacy campaigns is a plus.

- Commitment: Availability to dedicate 7–10 hours per week from January to September 2025.

- Skills: Strong communication (written and verbal); proficiency in English is required, with additional UN languages as a bonus

 Successful applicants will:
- Be part of a global network of youth advocates and leaders
- Gain hands-on experience in child rights, foresight research, youth engagement, and advocacy
- Contribute to shaping education and child rights discussions including the Leading Minds Conference
- Receive a stipend for work and contributions during the fellowship period

You will be given a selection of sectors to choose from, including education, social care, healthcare, youth justice, and housing, allowing you to tailor your response to the area’s most relevant to your experience.

We are asking this question to build on emerging findings and survey responses, helping us understand what needs to change. The insights we gather will play a critical role in shaping future DCMS youth policy including the National Youth Strategy and initiatives like Young Futures Hubs, steering positive change across the youth sector.

The deadline for responses is Thursday 6th February 2025.
