'Unfortunate girls' here the author refers to the people of poverty as 'unfortunate' he could have called them annoying , beasts or any horrible words however he went for unfortunate. The word unfortunate gives quotations of pity and sorrow suggesting that he feels bad for the situation that the homeless and people in povertywant to get out off

Like a dog implies that the author is using simalies to get his viewpoint of there poverty across. Dogs often curl up and sometimes whimper- this suggests that he is using imagary to show their emotions and view points of how they are libing , on the streets like stray dogs

Words and techniques which show viewpoint.
The writer uses alliteration and pairs of adjectives to descibe his pity and feelings for the people in the park for example 'Degration and despair ' and ' forlon and foetid' the writer uses powerful vocaburly to really emphasis his words 'foetid' meaning real foul-smelling is used to really exagerate on the bad smell that is in the air. His view on the smell is that it is foul. His view on the 105 is that they are forlorn. Connatations of forloun are helpless, depressed, pathitic and lonely. Tgerefore from the writer only saying one word we can see his whole viewpoint on the people through his techniques.

The author uses the word despair.
The word despair shows conoations of a simple form of pitty and sorrow therefor backing up the point about how his view points on the poor consist of sympathy towards their situation and feels the urge to help them. Perhaps he feels like this due to the fact he has come to the realisation of the fact that he has luxuary items, however the poor have gotten used to and forgetten about luxury items such as chocolate.
