In the 1960s, the Serengeti Plain experienced an increase in the wildebeest population, resulting in the ecosystem becoming healthier.

Wildebeest graze on grass, so with their increased population, they are able to control the amount of grass that grows in the area. With the grass being eaten by the wildebeest, there were less brush fires, which allowed trees to grow (wildebeest don't eat trees).
