Begin by knowing your own cultural background.

Get to know your students and their families.

incorporate the student's culture routine into daily routine such as daily naptime.

Create other activities that shares the culture such as share time

Create a classroom that helps all students feel welcome and important.

Get to know each students learning style.

Know and understand and be able to accommodate each students learning levels.

Use technology programs to look up information on the different countries as they are being discussed.

Display in the classroom flags from any/all countries where students are from beside the American flag.

Have stations set up that has information about the different cultures represented in the class.

Include in labels in each language, on items around the classroom such as Door, board, window, clock, desk, chair (etc.) so all students will learn, and the native students will feel at home.

Take a week at a time per language to teach easy words like Hello, goodbye, mom, dad. Ask the particular child for help in pronouncing any words you may not know

Have a school wide Multicultural "Family night" in which we ask the families to bring in samples of food, clothes even music to show the students.

In the individual classroom, Teachers can invite each parent/guardian to come into the classroom and talk to the students about the History of their country, along with showing what and how clothes are worn.

Another option is during the year parents or guardians could bring in foods and/or decorations for different holidays and explain how they celebrate them.

Having parents of all student's volunteer at different school events, concerts and sporting events and Family nights would help them learn the cultures of other parents and students.
