Linda Krumholz claims (in "The Ghosts of Slavery: Historical Recovery in Toni Morrison’s Beloved") that finding a voice for the thoughts and experiences of women is central to the "healing," historical recovery theme and structure of the book. According to Krumholz, Morrison’s novel "adapts techniques from modernist novels, such as the fragmentation of the plot and shifting narrative voice, to compel the reader to actively construct an interpretive framework" (109). How does the novel specifically address issues of gender, writing and power? How does the structure and style of the novel give voice to "the thoughts of the women of 124, unspeakable thoughts, unspoken" (Beloved 199)? I think Morrison really characterizes the character in Beloved to try and aim to become what is expected of their gender. We see this this repeatedly with Sethe and Paul D, as both tried to be either a mother, and man. Delving into power however, we see a large challenge with the distribution of power in 124, as each of the character has their own past and certain roles that they believe they should be. Sethe, a mother, Denver a daughter, and Beloved a obsessive daughter. With these roles we see lots of their streams of consciousness unravel and the insecurities faced by each that lead to a disruptive home of 124.

How are we affected by Delbo's memoir and her imperative for us to "Try to look. Try to see"? How were you affected by Auschwitz and After?
I personally was affected by her memoir. Delbo shows and recognizes, and displays the life of women in Auschwitz. I feel she recognized and shows throughout that even though she is released in the end, the life in Auschqitx is somehting that will forever taint her mind and moemories. She shows that there was really no good end for those who were taken into the camps. No one really survives, as their lives are always going to be affected by the time they were ept in there.

Intertextuality
How valid is the notion of a "classic" literary text? What makes Persepolis "literary" even though it is a graphic novel?
I think what have made books in the past "classics" are literary works that expresses a large amount of artistic abilities. Also, I think that although they may focus on a certain point in time, it is able to capture and express lessons from what is bring displayed. It also shows have a universal appeal. I think persepolsis is able to be considered literary as a graphic novel as Satrapi is has all these aspects in her work, but instead of having the use of literary devices, she back ups her ideas with devices prevalent in graphic novels

Time and Space
What insight did Persepolis give you into Iranian life during and after the revolution?
It gave me a perspective I didn't really know of. I learned so much form this book, as Iranian culture was never really exposed to me. I learned about the importance of religion and how internal problems can ensue from having different perspectives on issues. I also was exposed to the ho self expression is so important, as in Iranian culture during the revolution, it was near impossible to do to without having to endure consequences

Be detailed in how it connects with global issues and thematic and stylistic ideas to other works.
I think although it was a graphic novel, it still connects thematically with a lot of the books we read. In TTTC, it also shows the importance of innoncence and how quickly ear has the ability to deprive and individuals of this.

How does Persepolis connect to our world today

I think persepolis and shows the importance self expression can have and how important it is to have a healthy relationship with who you are.
