Since dystopian literature is not as often read in today's society, this unit pushed me to think deeply, and read as a professor would- always looking for symbols. The scholarly articles I found allowed me to retain and gather information about Bradbury's meaning behind his allusions. It brought out interpretations and literary devices that I did not interpret myself while reading Fahrenheit 451. This is a progression throughout the story, progressing through the main character Montag. At first he is a part of their oppressive government by burning books and people in the process. In the text they are reciting this, while walking through the ruins of the city towards 'the city of rebirth' otherwise alluded to as 'New Jerusalem'. Their plan is to rebirth the city for future prosperity, just like the Israelite's were promised. 

Biblical allusions are often found in literature like Fahrenheit 451 due to the universal knowledge of our world. Bradbury contains many biblical allusions to the book of Job, Ecclesiastes, and Revelations- as well as the Lilies of the Field story (Matthew 6:28). Along with this he represents the idea of baptism and rebirth when Montag cleans himself off in the river after escaping from the Hound. The friends of Mildred that Montag is speaking with come to the realization of the emptiness that exists in their world of parlor families. Without the knowledge to further advance and grow as a society, they are stuck in the rut of being controlled by their oppressive government.
