Moviprep is UHNM first choice in bowel preparation. It is a Polyethylene glycol 3350 ( PEG 3350) type of laxative. MoviPrep requires you to drink two liters of PEG and one additional litre of the clear liquid of your choice.
It works by drawing large amounts of water into the colon, which increases the number of bowel movements and results in watery motions.
A clean bowel will allow a clear view of the inner lining, which is important for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Plenvu

Plenvu is our 2nd choice of bowel prep at UHNM, and like moviprep it is a polyethylene glycol (PEG 3350)-based prescription osmotic laxatives used by adults 18 years of age and older, to clean the colon before a colonoscopy.
With Plenvu, you drink only one litre of PEG and one additional litre of the clear liquid of choice. Lower volume preparations may be more tolerable for patients.

Picolax

Picolax contains Sodium picosulfate which is activated by the natural bacteria that are found in the colon , so it doesn't start working until it reaches this part of the gut. It works by stimulating the nerve endings in the walls of the colon and rectum. This increases the muscle contractions in this part of the bowel, which moves the contents through the colon to the rectum so that the bowel can be emptied.

It also contains magnesium citrate which acts as an 'osmotic laxative'. It works by causing water to be drawn into the lower bowel. This increases the water content and volume of the stools, and helps to 'wash out' the bowel.
