Her artwork Care for Country centres around healing and repairing using bright colours of landscapes around Australia to celebrate culture & history, protect her culture and advocate for positive change. Douglas thought she would never be able to represent these themes well enough. This form of visual arts demonstrates learning from the past while creating something unique. .

Creativity is inside all of us and all around us. The more we identify this, the more we can appreciate and nurture the innate creativity inside ourselves.

Traditionally, creativity is the act of creating, making, designing, or constructing something. In 21st-century discourse, creativity is so much more. Like building on prior concepts, knowledge, and skills with innovation and cooperation to find unique solutions to practical problems. According to Sir Ken Robinson (2010), creativity is producing original ideas of value and is not limited to the arts domains or activities. Creativity involves a person in experimentation, imaginative design, original thinking, evaluation, and expansion of concepts and ideas.

Like knowledge, creativity is dynamic and ‘interpretive’; a culmination of everyone’s unique life perspectives and understandings. Their personal revelations resulting from cognitive, sensory, and emotional experiences, social interactions, and sociocultural influences.

It is manifested by all kinds of artistic expressions and demonstrated through actions, bodies, sounds, symbols and signs, communication methods, relationships with each other, and the more than human world (Sinclair et al., 2017).

Salvador Dali's surrealism works are the epitome of creativity and original thinking. His work still pushes boundaries and holds enormous value in its capacity to provoke thought, curiosity, and unique (albeit unconventional) filters of interpretation for both artist and observer. I also love that he demonstrated creativity in different domains: sculpting, designing furniture, jewels, and scenery for theatre production, and collaborating with famous Hollywood directors like Alfred Hitchcock and Walt Disney.

Mountain Lake (1938) demonstrates Dalí’s use of multiple images and optical illusions. It shows his unique perspective and ability to capture different ideas simultaneously by integrating the fish into the lake.

Obviously there are some influences such as things that Gene Roddenberry didn't want the ship to have - no wings, no smoke trails, etc - and the belief of Flying Saucers in the UFO community, but ultimately what became the Enterprise was from Matthew Jefferies' own imagination (Ottens, 2005).
Ottens, N.

The Craft a Critter Competition is an invitation to students and all Australians to create an artistic depiction of a chosen threatened species. Craft a Critter aims to raise awareness in the community of Australia’s remarkable and unique threatened wildlife. It also provides an information sharing and educational tool to occupy kids, students and adults as they spend more time at home. Artistic creations can vary from drawings, to crochet, to paintings, to sculptures, to clay, the most important thing is to have fun and be creative. The only thing we ask from you is to reduce, re-use and recycle. Try your best to use materials found around the home or garden. The Threatened Species Commissioner is delighted to be launching Craft a Critter and she is looking forward to seeing your critters come to life!
