I have always been passionate about environmental issues, and I love animals. Making something that supports such an important cause felt really good, and I thought it was awesome to make something that I could actually use in my everyday life.

I really wanted to make something I loved as my Final Project, so naturally I chose my dog. I went into the project knowing that fur was a really challenging thing to digitally paint, so I found a lot of videos teaching how to do it. But, when I realized I would not have enough time to successfully make a realistic fur, I decided to instead make a more cartoon-ish depiction. I’m very happy I made that decision because my project turned out great and it actually looks like my dog.

In the project, I played with using the negative filter as well as layering images. The result was really cool, with an almost supernatural feeling. I’m very happy with the way the portrait came out. It was the project that I spent the most time on, and I think all the work I put into the portrait shows in the final result. To do this project, which was to dramatically change the weather of a photo, I had to follow complicated instructions to achieve the desired end result. I had to learn many new skills, such as altering a filter to create a rain effect, and adding highlights and shadows in the correct place. The concept of combining animals into a hybrid creature is a humorous thing in and of itself, and my take on the project was also very lighthearted.
