People were protesting against being in the lockdown 

The protest happened around flinders street station in October 2020

The people involved were anti lockdown people, there wasn't a specific organisation.

They tried to change it so that we could go out and be free

It was ineffective because the people should have been in lockdown to prevent covid from spreading

to make it more effective they could have a larger show of people.

March 4 Justice was sparked by Brittany Higens, a member of the Liberal party, coming forward and saying she was raped by a colleague in Parliament house, fuelling public anger. 

On March 15th, people protested in Australian cities for women’s rights. The most notable march was in front of Parliament House in Canberra which caught the attention of the media and of the federal government. 

This march pressured the government into being held accountable for their treatment of women in the workplace and failure to protect women from sexual violence. Also by tainting the reputation of the government, March 4 Justice was able to receive nationwide news coverage, raising awareness on the issue. 

The March 4 Justice’s cause is still ongoing. On April 30th, Brittany Higgins was able to receive a meeting with the Prime Minister face to face to discuss the treatment of women and her case. Even though currently law reform has not been achieved, this protest encouraged many people to come forward and tell their story.

Black Live Matter is an international social movement that was formed in the USA by a civil rights group that came about as a result of extreme police brutality which came about as a result of the shooting dead of three Adrican American men.

The Black Lives Matter movement began with the shocking death of George Floyd, an African-American who died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in May 2020. Thousands of Black Lives Matter protesters took the streets with signs/posters to protest against police brutality against black people, after a viral video went around social media, showing George Floyd’s death. 

There were many people involved in this demonstration as it was international and was protested in many different ways such as in person or on social media. For an example the hashtag for Black Live Matter was started by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. The hashtag was a smart way to show support for the issue as the event occurred during the COVID-19 lockdowns for most countries.

The Black Lives Matter protesters created bright yellow signs to draw attention and to try to influence the leaders to act on their calls for racial justice. The outcomes, the police officer that suffacted George Floyd whislt attemting to arrest him has been found guilty of second degree murder. 

The Demonstration/protest was effective as a large amount of the world's population joined in showing their support and the popularity of the issue was so big that it was everywhere you looked. For an example for at least a month, social media was flooded with Black Lives Matter content, most radio stations spoke on the issue and a lot of celebrities stepped up to show their support in the issue.

If it was ineffective, what could they do differently next time?

The strikes occurred from the 20-27th of September, 2019 during the Global Week for Climate Action week. This event happened internationally with over 3000 places participating.

The organisation began after Swedish pupil Greta Thunberg staged a protest. A global strike was held  following garnering over 4 million protesters, most of which were school students across over 150 million countries.

Global strikes began to be organised around the world inspired by Thunberg. Thousand of students protested on Fridays to several global strikes throughout 2018. 

The use of a demonstration provided a huge surge of media attention to the topic but no real laws were changed as a result of this. Some children in Australia have even been  punished or or arrested for demonstrating. Scott Morrison has also called for "more learning and less activism" following the strikes.
