This guide is for teachers of adult basic education learners who read at a 0-6 grade reading level. It offers a set of 13 lessons designed to help learners understand the components of reading that are part of becoming a more fluent reader, and to guide them as they work with the teacher to set their own goals for reading.

Maybe it’s discovering uplifting and easy to read material for your learners – like Little Joys.  It is part of a collection of Adult New Reader books, written and created by adult learners, volunteer tutors and staff of CLLS Libraries. There are more than 60 titles which you can download or read online at ProLiteracy: Pleasure Reading for Students 

You can access the website anywhere in California to find books of interest to you. With an account, you can establish collections for yourself or your learner.

The Cranky Uncle game uses cartoons and critical thinking to fight misinformation. The game was developed by University of Melbourne scientist John Cook, in collaboration with creative agency Goodbeast. The game is now available for free on iPhone and Android.

Within each strand, we identified three areas of need and designed webinars to address each. Throughout all three topics, we addressed working in a multilevel class or group and converting in-person teaching strategies to distance learning.

This strand is best for teachers and tutors working with adults who are working toward their GED and HiSET credential.
