Had Lucia's first school been grounded in a pedagogy of care and be intent on connecting her with pathways that are probably AT that school but were not offered to her, Lucia would not feel the way she felt.

Oftentimes, the systems of power will convince those of nondominant groups (and powerless groups) that  "taking the deal" is the best action and there won't be any more trouble.

Why didn't anyone lean in and figure out why Lucia wanted to leave, as opposed to simply lumping Lucia in with the actions of her sister (was her sister bullied also, like Cardi B was because she was pretty)?
