Jenny and Shaun became friends this year. They often hang out at recess or lunch. They like the same kind of music and both have similar senses of humor. They both have lots of other friends and do things with them together and separately. Jenny occasionally gets annoyed when Shaun has plans with other people and she doesn’t. Shaun sometimes feels the same way when the situation is reversed.

Santiago and Micaela have been friends since third grade. They first became friends because they both love the same TV show. They sometimes hang out together watching it or just playing. Lately Santiago has been hanging out with some other kids. Micaela doesn’t like them and is thinking about telling Santiago he can’t be friends with her if he keeps hanging around those other kids.

Caleb and Ashton are almost inseparable. At school they try to sit together in class and during free periods. After school they play basketball and video games and play with Ashton’s siblings. Often when they are together, they call each other insulting names and make fun of something the other person said or did.

Angie and Maurice have been friends since kindergarten. When they hang out after school, they get along well and are very kind to each other. At school they are spending less time together because Maurice has become friends with another group of kids who seem to dislike Angie. Some of the kids in the group say mean things about Angie in front of Maurice. Maurice doesn’t join in, but he doesn’t defend Angie either
