Knowledge and beliefs can many times interchange, however, beliefs serve motivational purposes, especially in educators' lives. It is important for me to understand how my beliefs form my identity, and therefore be conscious of how that might influence how I carry myself as a counselor.

Beliefs can greatly influence an educator's profession and how they choose to portray their principles. My beliefs will always remain part of me and my values. However, it is important to know how to navigate and remain true to my beliefs without imposing them on the students that I will counsel in the future.

Some educators may have a holistic view of the school, while others may have an essentialist perspective of the school. Some believe that all students should be supported to reach their full potential while others believe that students should be prepared to be productive members of society. As I read this text, I reflected on how I view the education system and I was able to learn that I view school through a holistic perspective.

Some educators believe that knowledge may only come from those with authority such as educators, doctors, etc. While other educators may believe that knowledge may come from others as well as one's self. Perspective on knowledge influences how educators choose to set up their classrooms. As a future counselor, I want to meet the needs of my students and use my knowledge as well as other sources of knowledge.

As a future counselor, I want to observe the behavior of the students. Behaviors can be a way for students to express that certain needs are not being met or that they might not be content with how they are being treated. Learning how my students pick up on different information best, is important when building rapport with students and being an effective educator.

The research on educators, their beliefs, and students is incomplete and should be continued with profundity. Through the reading, I learned that most of the information relating to educators comes from White, female educators, hence leaving minorities unrepresented. As a Hispanic woman, who hopes to give back to my low-income community, I want to represent many of us who are not represented.

It is amazing to learn about how our beliefs affect the performance and behaviors of students. As a future counselor, I want to be a safe supporter for my students. A supporter who is able to remind them of their many talents and skills. A support who truly believes in them.
