Today my family has awoken from their slumber. They woke me up as I was still drowsy, I wanted to keep sleeping.
My father came rushing to me, telling me that we were going to be moving West. I looked at him in fear and asked him, "But Papa, what if they catch us going up the mountain like many others were caught." He shook his head at me telling me that it didn't matter, that we needed to leave and move from here.
Just two weeks ago a family was caught and taken away, their belongings came back to the village as a sign, they left it as if it were to be a huge pile of trash. No one had an idea what happened to the family. It was too devastating, that's why I am so scared right now. Could the same thing happen to us... It is the middle of spring right now.

Mama was packing everything up in such a rush, papa was anxious but I could tell he was really determined to leave here forever. I don't want to leave, what about my friends and everyone else here? I don't want to go, but I also want to see what's in the West as well.
I got up and helped mama pack the things that she said that we needed. I asked mama why did we have to leave now? She told me it was very important for us to leave around this month of April because then we would hope to reach Oregon before the winter snows would begin. Leaving around this time of spring would also ensure that there’d be enough grass along the way to feed livestock. There I understood everything. Would it be enough though?

Papa and mama packed up so much water, how long would we be traveling for? I asked mama how long would it take, she didn't give me a complete answer, but it would be at most a five- to six-month trip and could also possibly be up to a whole year. Mama and papa also got a lot of supplies like flour, sugar, bacon, coffee, salt, rifles and bullets. I was quite in shock to be seeing everything being bought, papa was grabbing a little of everything, even backup pieces for our wagon and more. It made me think of how our trip would go, it frightened me to even think of how we will surpass this trip, though, I do help for it all to go well.

From how I counted it's been about six days now... It's going all by quick, but the days are also very slow. I'm loving the views, but mama and papa are looking very tired. We've finally made it to the mountains, but the trail looks rugged and steep to go up with such items and it didn't look so easy to go up. Luckily, our wagon was quite sturdy enough to go up the trail. I hope nothing bad would go on, I really do, I wonder if mama and papa packed up enough things for us to survive for the time being since mama did tell me that the trip would last for a while, such as a year... We did bring up a lot of water. I wonder if there will be streams later on throughout the trip... Oh wait, I forgot, this is a mountain, silly me. There will be rivers, we’ll get more water from there.

The mountain is such a nice view, but it is quite exhausting to pass by… Mama looks really tired, she seems like she’s going to fall sick, so papa had he lay in the wagon until we stopped at a rest stop. So far one of our wheels broke off, but luckily papa had spares as he planned. This journey is quite a long trip, I never expected things to fall down like this. Papa looks very tired too, but mama nor papa wants to stop for a whole day and relax, I don’t know what to do to help them. I feed mama and give her water everytime she wakes up, she doesn’t look so well. Then finally I told papa to find somewhere to stop, they needed rest, the sun was hitting us a lot. We found a beautiful stop, the sunset and sunrise was so beautiful, I also got to collect some grass that was good for us, I also got some pretty flowers. I decorated mama’s and papa’s hair with the flowers, then mama decorated my hair. That night, we relaxed after such a long time, we even rested partially in the morning. Mama and Papa looked so relaxed afterwards.

We’re running out of supplies slowly, we’re having short amounts of food and papa can’t find anything to hunt. No one else is around either. But I have my hope that we will arrive soon to the Westside, I really look forward to it. Papa is also looking more tired everyday, I think we need another break. I told Papa to relax. Mama agreed with me and as we stopped to rest, papa saw a rabbit, he wanted to catch it to have more food supplies, so mama and I left to collect more grass and to see if we found any herbs. We only had two sacks of water left, mama was quite worried about it. I believe that we are close to the Westside, I declined to believe we wouldn’t make it like other families did. Many other families and other people didn’t make it to the Westside, and died from diseases such as dysentery, cholera, smallpox or flu, or in accidents caused by inexperience, from exhaustion, and carelessness. And, it wasn't uncommon for people to be crushed beneath wagon wheels or accidentally shot to death, and many people drowned during perilous (dangerous) river crossings.

Before making it to the end, we had to cross another riverside, from there, we got more water, it lasted us for another good amount of time. After crossing the river, we continued, rested for the night, and the sooner that we knew it, we saw the Westside, so excited to see everything and explore. We need to go down the mountain first, until I overheard mama and papa talking about gold. I was confused and I was wondering why I didn't hear about this gold finding thing. Was the whole reason for us to travel towards the west was for just this ’gold’? I was confused but also bothered, but then mama said we will find a new home to get comfy, everyone was different. Nothing as I have ever seen before, it was nice and different, I couldn’t wait to eat a meal that we haven’t had in such a while, I never want to have another trip like that! After everything, mama, papa, and I settled down and became a little happy family. Papa left out everyday, I wondered why, but now. We are together and in peace.
