"One of the tenets of P.B.S. (Positive Behavior Support) is that an active and productive class setting with clear behavioral and academic expectations helps behaviorally challenged students stay engaged in the learning activities."

I definitely connected with the point about how classroom management is incorporated into interactive reading notebooks. I have many students this year who benefit more from hands-on learning and staying active in the classroom.

How true is this! The students would be so excited, and thus, motivated to be able to have a completed "portfolio" to take home at the end of the year. I've realized, a great deal of motivation is how you "talk it up". If I used the words "portfolio" and "published" when describing using interactive reading notebooks, I know the students would become excited as well.

"Rarely do INBs include formative assessments of the focus Standards or teacher’s behavioral objectives. "

This is something I question as well. What is an appropriate way to differentiate instruction and assess when you are using interactive reading notebooks?
