task 1 - Week 1- planning my fmp project -(14/3/25)

for the first week of working on my final major project was mostly spent working on ideas for the film, pacifically focused on creating spider diagrams and mood boards. we started this week with three different spider diagrams based on three different ideas we had for our final major project. for this I focussed my spider diagrams on three controversial emotions to make my final major project more interesting, I can be much more experimentally with much more deeper and controversial emotions rather then basic and unoriginal emotions like anger or sadness. for the final ,major project I picked three different unique emotions, they were depression, obsession and hatred. after this I had pick which emotion I wanted to continue with depression, this is as the emotion I very creative and original and I had much more creative control with how I could use it in the final major project.

Task 2 - Week 2 - secondary and primary research -(21/3/25)

for this second week, we spent most of our time focusing on both primary and secondary research. we then had to use this information to analyse the target audience and how to make our short film appeal to this minority. i began working on my primary research by making a questionnaire and letting the public answer. the questionnaire showed me damming evidence that the public doesn't know much about depression with only 45% of the group actually knowing how common depression actually is in people : this piece of primary research showed me that with my portrayal of depression i need to have it as honest and realistic as possible to show people who don't know much about mental health how it looks and the problems caused by it. my secondary research focused on a vintage interview with a person with depression, in this video we see the interviewer not know much about depression and feeding into the stigmas about mental health : this shown me how much development has come about with mental health and how much we till need to learn. however, this video has taught me what stigmas I do not need to feed into so that my portrayal of mental health is realistic and not comedic

Task3 - Week 3- pitching and presenting -(28/3/25)

for this week, we worked on both the swot analysis and presenting our pitch. while working on my presentation, we had to explain what our film idea was and why we were working on this idea. for my short film is a conversation between a boy who's suffering with depression and the living embodiment of his mental health discussing if he should kill himself or not. the reason why I wanted to focus the final major project on this idea is because of the fact depression is only been explored in the last 40 years with people not knowing a lot about depression, I want to use my short film to educate.

in this pitch presentation we also had to include the costs for the sort film, with the costs of mine coming up to only 1750 pound as I aim to keep the film cheap. this film only needed one day to film so not a lot of money was was needed for both the actors and the filming location. the film was also cheap as the tech used to film is my phone to give it that rough look.

the presentation was recorded with me and a camera, it did take about four different try's as I kept getting nervous Infront of the camera.

Task 3 - Week 3 - SWOT -(28/3/25)

this part of the week I spent working on my swot analysis, analysing my strengths and weaknesses of the final major project.

I said one of my strengths of this final major project is that the project is really cheap to make. this is a strength for my project as I don't need to spend a crazy amount to create the film, I will be able to save money.

I said that one of the weaknesses of my final major project was the acting talent. I said this as the actor I try to use are usually less trained so they don't usually know how to work professionally on set.

I said that one threat of my final major project is the actors health. if the actor is ill while filming it could jeopardize the whole set and the other workers.

I said that one opportunity of my final major project is the filming location, we are planning to film in someone's home so its much more cost affective then filming in a set.

Task 4 - Week 4 - Pre production-(4/4/25)

for this week we worked on all of the pre production for the final major project, including all of the paper work for the actors and locations and the script writing.

for my final major project, I had the script written in the most minimal way possible so that we have a bigger focus on the visuals. the conversation between the pair I very very short so that we can focus on how they physically interact.

for the shot list, I planed out a lot of close up shots, this was done to give the short film a much more intense feel and so that we can see how the main actor feels in the situation. for the shot list as well, i also included a lot of further shots to see the shadowy figure and the boy against each other.

for the production schedule, I have put it down as only lasting a day as I want the filming for the final major project to be simple.

Task 5 - Week 5 - rush analysis and filming -(11/4/25)

this week was spent recording all of the scenes for the final major project, this week was also the start of some of the struggles.

one of the struggles I faced while filming was conflicts with the actor for the boy. these struggles were due to the actor not being able to keep a straight face while filming against the other actor. to combat this i filmed as much scenes a I could without using the other actor.

for my rush analysis we focussed on the scene with the boy getting out of bed, I eventually picked the clip which was the longest and at the best angle.

Task 6 - Week 6 - editing and post production - (18/4/25)

this week was spent editing the final major project and reporting on what we used to edit the short film. I used adobe premier for the editing of the cli, ibis paint for the animations and cap cut for the lighting.

this week had a lot of problems linked to it, the first one being the animation. I have never animated before so to make it easier I made a stop motion animation instead. the animation came off as very rough and unprofessional looking and it has taught me to not to be overambitious.

this week also had other problems due to the clips. most of the clip were unusable because of the fact that the actor of the boy wouldn't take the scenes seriously and laugh. with the fact that I couldn't refilm because of scheduling, I had to scavenge as much proper footage as I could use.

Task 7 - Week 7 - final evaluation -(25/4/25)

this last week was spent on evaluation the my work through out the whole course. now looking back after working on the final major project, I do believe my work was not up to my usual standard because of different reasons, but with the main one being my overambition. this final major project has taught me not to try and go over the top with my movie making and to try and stay down in earth to a certain extent.
