A challenge that affects special education, more specifically, would be the qualifications of the staff that is being hired. Many teachers filling special education and intervention specialist positions have little to no direct qualifications for the job. Ensuring that we have the needed supports for students with language barriers can be hard. Often times I see teachers wanting to be so involved in the school or community that they blur the separation of their personal and teaching lives. Yes, we should support students and should be involved in the community but we need to learn when to say no, when to take a break from planning and grading and when to exist outside of our jobs.
