But the more time I’ve spent with the medical institution as a whole (hierarchies and administration etc.) the less I feel healthcare workers have a voice within it and may not be listened to when they seek to change it. At my last GP placement an elderly patient was brought in by her daughter and in addition to the presence of a langauge barrier, the patient had reported increased forgetfulness and reliance on family for basic tasks. Though the patient didn't want to undertake the suggested treatment (due to the hospital stay required), she was steamrolled by her daughter who wanted the patient to recieve care.
