·      The town calling Clare a whore- relates to woman’s right as it was her choice as to what she did and she did not deserve a name for it
·      Unwed single mothers are still judged in the society as there is still a cloud of scepticism of whether their child will be raised correctly and well
·      Failure in justice system- Lindy Chamberlain 
·      Even today- Of 20-25% sexual assaults reported to police, 85% of offences never come to the justice system
·      Of 21,380 victims of sexual assault, roughly only 10% are charged with a guilty verdict
·      Today, poverty is growing in Australia, 2.9 million people 
·      Poverty of Clare initially may have influenced the decision of her verdict

Claire, after being exiled from Güllen as a young girl, forced to give up her daughter and left with no option except prostitution, is similar to many of the girls on the streets of Australia. A ring of child prostitution, exploiting children, forcing them to sell their body in return for drugs, food and accomodation (http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/client-paid-10-for-12-year-old-girl/news-story/ead4095415d119f46b0555519d5006ff). This is relevant to The Visit because Claire was similar to the girls frequenting our streets, young, vulnerable and scared.
