Modesty is a trait that differs from a nineteenth-century man. Men in the era needed to believe that they could amount to great possibilities. This was their method to create a status for them in the southern community. These men needed to have a big ego and think that they could become high and mighty. I value modesty because there is a distinction between people that are humble and thankful for what they have and people that want to dominate over society. Someone with modesty realizes that there are limitations in life.

In general, most of the codes of honour on this page deal with progressive ideals, such as equality in terms of gender and race. I agree with Evelyn's because I also believe in modesty in social applications. One should not be overly self centred in themselves or their achievements. Modesty comes hand in had with humbleness. Modesty contradicts with the southern code of honour, which served to inflate the egos of southerners, while modesty humbles people.
