Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde was born on October 16, 1854 in Dublin, Ireland. He attended the Portora Royal School at Enniskillen where he fell in love with Greek and Roman studies. He won the school's prize for the top classics student in each of his last two years. He also won a second prize in drawing during his final year. Upon graduating in 1871, Wilde was awarded the Royal School Scholarship to attend Trinity College in Dublin.

No he also wrote poems  and children stories like The Happy Prince and Other Tales,

In 1891 he published Intentions, an essay collection about the tenets of aestheticism, and that same year, he published his first and only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray. 

Wilde's first play opened in February 1892, Lady Windermere's Fan.

Beacause he was secretly homosexual 

Wilde had an affair with a young man named Lord Alfred Douglas. And in 1895, Douglas's father, the Marquis of Queensberry, received the notice of his son's realationship and sued Oscar Wild. When the trial began in March, Queensberry and his lawyers present presented evidence of Wilde's homosexuality and Wilde was convicted on May 25, 1895 and sentenced to two years in prison.
