First, people maybe drink and drive because of impaired judgement. People can misjudge how drunk they are and decide to drive anyways. Second, they may drink and drive because of embarrassment. They want to prove to others that they are in control on themselves, so they drive, even though they aren't. Another reason is financial reasons. They might not want to or be able to pay for a ride home. Lastly is a false sense of security. They think they will be fine and no one will catch them, even though that's not true.

People drive under the influence for many reasons, even if they have made a vow not to. One reason is impaired judgement. Another is embarrassment or judgement from other people. The person may want to prove to others that they are not too intoxicated to drive, or they are embarrassed to ask for a ride home. Another reason might be financial, as in not having enough money to afford to pay for a ride home. Finally, the person could have a false sense of security. They may have driven under the infuence before and had nothing bad happen, or know that few people gt caught and feel like they can get away from it.

People drive under the influence for multiple reasons. One of the main reasons being impaired judgement of the driver. Often times when under the influence, drivers have impaired judgement and misjudge how impaired they actually are. Another reason why people may drive under the influence is due to embarrassment or peer pressure, especially younger people. Teenagers and and young drivers may feel pressured to drive and feel embarrassed not to.
https://www.jaredjustice.com/blog/why-do-people-drink-and-drive-the-reasons-might-be-more-complex-than-you-think/#:~:text=Impaired%20Judgment%3A%20It%20probably%20won,intoxicated%2C%20your%20mind%20is%20altered.

Statistics show that fewer than 4,000 people are arrested daily for drunk driving. People do these things because of impaired judgement that is caused from alcohol consumption. Peer pressure and embarrassment from their peers is also a big cause but its better to take the embarrassment than to get arrested or die in a crash. People drive intoxicated 300,000 times a day. People also have addictions to alcohol and might have mental health issues and they go to alcohol or drugs.

When they are intoxicated their minds can be altered, people can misjudge their limitations and predict they can hold it. Another reason people still drive under the influence due to embarrassment and pressure. People can be embarrassed to admit their drunk or not in control. So they drive to prove they are still in control. https://www.jaredjustice.com/blog/why-do-people-drink-and-drive-the-reasons-might-be-more-complex-than-you-think/

There are many reasons that people drive under the influence and there are serious risks that come with those. The most common reason they DUI is because they think they are sober enough. Since people are already impaired from drinking, their judgement is distorted. This occurrence is most common in young drivers because of the less experience. Another reason is that they are too embarrassed to admit they are drunk, a urge to prove they can drive just fine when drinking. Lastly, people who are short on cash aren't able to call a cab or Uber so they end up driving themselves home.https://www.jaredjustice.com/blog/why-do-people-drink-and-drive-the-reasons-might-be-more-complex-than-you-think/#:~:text=Impaired%20Judgment%3A%20It%20probably%20won,intoxicated%2C%20your%20mind%20is%20altered.

When in a situation where someone is drunk and needs a ride home the choice should be clear - not to drive. But some people still continue to drive drunk for several reasons. One could be that the driver is not aware that they are too impaired to drive safety and their state of mind and perception is altered. Being drunk could cause someone to feel more confident and even invincible, acting like they won't get caught driving under the influence. Another reason may be that the person has a "buzz", but think they are still fine. This is false because even small amounts of alcohol affects your ability to react and make proper decisions. Lastly, people may drive drunk because they are too embarrassed to ask for a ride home (from friends or family) or don't want to leave their car overnight somewhere.

People still drink and drive when they know the consequences because they might have impaired judgment, pressure or embarrassment, financial reasons, or a false sense of security. The main reasons people choose to drive while under the influence is because they have impaired judgement. If you're intoxicated your mind is altered. You wouldn't be able to properly judge how drunk or affected you are. It mostly happens to young drivers with less experience but it could still happen to anyone. Another reason is pressure or embarrassment. People want to control themselves and show off to others that they are not drunk. Others might be too embarrassed to call someone or tell someone to pick them up.
Financial reasons is another reason for drunk driving. Some people may not want to pay or they cant afford to pay. In the long run it is way more cost-effective than having to pay legal fees. Also a false sense of security may prompt them to drive. Fewer than 4,000 people get arrested daily even though 300,000 people drive intoxicated everyday. They might have chosen to drive drunk before without any repercussion and think they wont get caught again.

When someone is intoxicated their judgement is impaired and their ability to understand how drunk they are is distorted. in addition to not being aware, many people are just the opposite.

Although it is wrong, some people still drive under the influence. If someone is an avid drinker, they might believe their alcohol tolerance is higher than it truly is, and feel that they are fine to drive after consuming enough alcohol to effect their focus. Others might just not care if they are driving under the influence, and some people get peer-pressured into driving after drinking. Every day in the U.S. about 28 people die in drunk-driving crashes, even if they are not the ones who consumed alcohol. The social-environmental influences stand at 33% of the reasons that people drink and drive. They come from friends, and and alcohol, to some people, helps them in social situation. People usually let their intoxicated friends drive due to the lack of a designated driver.
Women tend to drink due to social influences. Men tend to drink by occasion. Despite that, there are barely any gender differences in heavy drinkers.
One's state of mind can greatly be affected by alcohol. They can have a false sense of relaxation and confidence. The alcohol can alter spatial perception. It can alter memory of how many drinks were consumed. The normal patterned behavior of driving - auto-pilot - can override critical thinking.

Drunk driving can severely harm yourself and others around you. Most people are well aware of the risks of DUI, but they still happen. One reason people still DUI is that they do not realize how impaired they really are. According to the article, "When you’re intoxicated, your mind is altered. You may not be able to properly judge your physical limitations or how greatly your thought process has been affected." Another reason that someone may drive impaired is out of embarrassment. "No one likes to admit they’re too drunk to drive, especially if they have to call a friend or family member to come to their rescue." Finally, another reason someone may drive under the influence is because of financial struggle. "Some people may not want to pay for a ride home." If someone is living paycheck to paycheck, then paying for a bus ride or Uber home might not seem like a good option to them.

Many people don’t realize or underestimate to what extent drugs/alcohol and they belive that after all there completely fine to drive. Whether over the counter, prescription or illegal drugs may impair their ability to drive. They may not realize that certain cold remedies, painkillers and muscle relaxants may be just as debilitating as alcohol.

Nearly 4000 get arrested for driving under the influence of drinking. 300,000 people still drive intoxicated. Most people drive under the influence of drinking because of peer pressure of embarrassment and of not wanting to throw away their pride. Another reason to why people still drive under the influence is because of Impaired judgement in which their mind is altered because of intoxication and will misjudge themselves and drive anyways. People also might not be able to afford a ride so they'll drive intoxicated anyways and possibly end up in a accident.

Why Do People Drink and Drive?

There are a lot of risks regarding drinking and driving. While driving impaired your reaction time is slowed and your concentration is reduced. It will also slow down your decision making abilities. When you drive under the influence these factors make it very dangerous to operate your vehicle.

Although people know these risks, they still do it anyways. They think that since they only had one or two drinks they are good to drive. Just because you feel okay out of the vehicle doesnt mean that you will be okay behind the wheel.

People drive under the influence still after drinking and knowing the risks and dangers because they can be pressured, false sense of security, and judgement. A person intoxicated may feel the pressure to drive so they can show they are in control of themselves and don't have to admit they are drunk to some people. A friend could pressure on into drive so they don't have to but put you at risk. Many people also misjudge how impaired they are and how their minds can convince themselves otherwise. Feeling intoxicated changes your mind and sometime one may not be able to control themselves.
https://www.jaredjustice.com/blog/why-do-people-drink-and-drive-the-reasons-might-be-more-complex-than-you-think/

One reason why people continue to drink and drive is because they can be over confident, in their driving skills. Sometimes people would drink too much and forget how many drinks they have consumed. And thinking they had only a few drinks, could feel confident to drive home or some other place. If your BAC is 0.08% then your muscle coordination is poor, and some effects are short-term memory loss also reduced information processing capability. At 0.15% you have far less muscle control, substantial impairment in vehicle control, attention to driving task, and in necessary visual and auditory information processing.
Drunk Driving | NHTSA

Although Driving under the Influence is dangerous, people do it anyways. One reason people drive under the influence is impaired judgement. People don't know how intoxicated they are, then go and drive and get in an accident. Another way people end up driving under the influence is because they would feel embarrassed if they said they couldn't drive because they're too impaired.
Another reason people drive under the influence is because they don't designate drivers so at the end of the night when everybody is impaired there is nobody sober to drive.

I think people drink and drive due to the social environment they find themselves in. Whether or not it is because of the of trying to appear cool while intoxicated or because they are embarrassed they do not have a ride home. Heavy drinking often arises in response to subtle encouragement from friends. One of the chief influences upon the decision to drive impaired was simply a person's failure to recognize or admit that they were under the influence of alcohol.

Drinking and driving kills 28 people a day in the U.S. The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes totals more than $44 billion.

DUI is a huge problem because you can easily hurt or kill someone. About 2 high schools worth of teenagers are killed every year due to drunk driving. People drive under the influence because they might have no other choice or they have to be somewhere. An estimated 300,000 people are charged with a DUI everyday. Some people become to over confident that they can drive under the influence ,but then they end up crashing and possibly killing themselves or another civilian. Drunk driving causes over 10,000 deaths per year.
Source:
https://www.bankrate.com/insurance/car/drunk-driving/#:~:text=One%20alcohol%2Drelated%20death%20occurs,driving%20crashes%2C%20the%20NHTSA%20reports.

One reason people drink and drive is that the driver is more drunk than they thought they were and are confident that they can still drive safely. Or if they are not aware of the effects that the alcohol has on their ability to drive.

Why do people still drive under the
influence, even though they know the risks and dangers?

There are 4 reasons for that. Number 1, poor decision-making. Your mind is disturbed when you're drunk. You may be unable to properly assess your physical limitations or the amount to which your mental process has been impacted. Number 2, pressure of embarrassment. People may also do so to avoid humiliation; no one wants to admit they're too drunk to drive, especially if they must contact a friend or family member for help. However, unless you want to be forced to hire DUI lawyers after a car accident. Number 3, financial concerns. Some individuals may be reluctant to pay for a ride home. That thought may be understandable if you're low on cash. However, the cost of an Uber or a taxi is much less expensive in the long run than the legal fees you'll pay your DUI lawyer or the damage you have caused. Finally, Number 4 is a sense of false security. When people drink and drive, they risk hurting their judgment as well as giving themselves a false sense of security. According to statistics, fewer than 4,000 people are arrested for drunk driving every day, despite the fact that nearly 300,000 people drive while intoxicated every day. Don't drink and drive just because you don't think you'll get caught. That high level of self-assurance could eventually ruin the rest of your life.

https://www.jaredjustice.com/blog/why-do-people-drink-and-drive-the-reasons-might-be-more-complex-than-you-think/
