They pushed and pulled classmates on the swings and discussed how friction slowed them down on the slides. We also experimented with different strength forces when kicking balls across the field to their classmates. The Silence is Golden strategy was used with a Discovery Ed video clip to engage students in conversation about pushes and pulls. Students then worked with their 5th grade reading buddies to complete a worksheet about pushes and pulls and then built contraptions experimenting with the force of gravity and friction. The structures were then put to test to see if they were earth-quake proof. They work in small groups to explore the most accurate and efficient way to track weather patterns. Students compare their strategies with other groups and collaborate how they can incorporate pieces into their own strategy.

Students also read passages about animal and human senses.
