Hi my name is Madison Saggau and for this assignment I chose the article about assistive technologies to support students with dyslexia. I chose this article because my older brother struggled with dyslexia his whole life and technology was the only reason he was able to succeed in his education.

This article is focused on the technological tools we as teachers and IEP team members have access to help students with dyslexia succeed. "AT for students with dyslexia most
often mediates the disability in areas of
challenge. Specifically, AT can mediate
challenges with reading, writing, and
spelling" (Dawson 2019). The article does a great job break down each element such as reading, writing, and spelling and how each and can be supplemented with Assistive Technology. Research has been done of the benefits of the customization of AT and how it can help each individual student. This article spends a lot of time getting in depth with all of the different types and variations of AT offered for students struggling with dyslexia.

- Reading with AT: students struggling with dyslexia usually do not perform at the same level of reading as other students. With AT students are able to comprehend reading in a variety of ways. ways. Text-to-
speech software, for example, can be
beneficial for students with dyslexia
who exhibit weak decoding skills, low
levels of fluency, and strong listening
comprehension skills (Parr, 2013;
Wood, Moxley, Tighe, & Wagner, 2017).
- Writing and Spelling with AT: When students struggle with their writing or spelling due to dyslexia it tends to affect their communication and their vocabulary. "Talking word processors
that translate written into spoken text
and speech-to-text programs that allow
students to convert their spoken
language to writing can also improve
writing and spelling performance" (Dawson 2019).

- This information I have learned throughout this assignment will help me as a teacher know what tools I have access to to help provide for my students. With these technologies students struggling with dyslexia can still learn in the same classroom as their peers while also getting the supplemental tools they need to succeeded.
- It is so important that any of our teaching habits be based on evidence, especially the work with individuals special needs. With the more research we have done on AT and its help with students with dyslexia we can provide them the best education possible.

I can provide them with valuable tools without alienating them in the classroom.
- In school I never have really experienced any supplemental education for students with dyslexia around me. As a teacher I will do my best to provide as much assistance any student will need.
