This was reflected in the art during this period, as more androgynous depictions of women in fashion media appeared with masculine silhouettes and shorter hairstyles.

The lingering aftereffects of the war has also simplified fashion due to anxieties of resource deprivation. Clothing became simpler rather than flamboyant. This, along with the influence of designers such as Chanel and Vionnet, reduced women's fashion to a cleaner and simpler silhouette.

This Vogue cover focuses on practicality and trying to assist women during the war, taking fashion largely out of the spotlight. This is reflected in how the hand peels back the cover, representative of the introspection the issue encourages. However, a beautifully manicured hand adorned with an expensive bracelet shows an enormous disconnect from the realities of women’s lives; the issue prompts women to take power over aspects of their lives as long as it serves patriarchal gender roles. The large focus on advertising is reflective of the time and people’s access to luxury. The leading lines with the bold composition on the page draws the eye to the type on the cover. Although the dressing in this image is simply a tight-fitting swimsuit, But it allowed women to expose their skin, showing their real body shape instead of using fabrics to build an S-shape on them, is quite advanced.
This cover was made in a period that everything is stably recovering from WW1, the WW2 haven't affect England yet and the summer Olympic is progressing. Historically, the economy had grown at a rate of 4.43% per year, however in the 1930’s there was a dramatic drop to just 0.63%. This effected every aspect of Paris, including how fashion was portrayed/perceived. 
In this cover, the idealisation of beauty (of its time) is shown through a stereotypical figure of a face, almost mask like, representing the social expectations of women through beauty standards, which are completely unattainable. As well as this, social status is portrayed through the gloves and rose, which could be seen as something haut monde. Drawing on this we alternated the original version to show the photograph of the face in black and white and the illustration in colour. In our version we introduce more diversity with the illustrated figure being a person of colour who embodies a more androgynous workwear style, with brighter colours representing the current styles of today. We also altered the composition of the cover as all of us felt the original composition, with the front face and the illustration placed in the middle, was awkward and jarring so didn’t appeal to audiences today.
