The author writes, "by coincidence, as demonstrators in Montreal were beheading Macdonald’s statue, I was with a group of nerds in Kingston, taking a tour of the city’s historic sites". They make a pointed contrast between the protestors who were BEHEADING the historic statue, while the author was simply passing through on a tour of historic sights with some Kingston 'nerds' (to imply innocence).
