First idea is for a participatory piece on Stan Collymore and his potential new role as director of football at Southend United. Main points to consider will be why has Stan got such a love for a club that he spent just 6 months at during his career, why has he decided to come back to help with the finding of the new manager at Southend United, what does he feel he can bring to the club to get it back in shape and moving in the right direction? Why does Stan Collymore love Southend so much despite only spending a small fraction of his career there?

Access to Archive film of Collymore at Southend scoring if available will be necessary to help introduce Stan and start developing that Character arc.

I believe fans will compliment the documentary nicely, as Stan is really focusing his potential return to the club in a director role as something he is doing for the fanbase of Southend. Documentary will consider why do the fans want Collymore in at the club as a director, what do they think and hope that he will bring to the club. As well consider having the main club Journalist Chris Phillips from The Echo to potentially set the scene as to what has been some dark years for the club and how potentially Stan has or is taking the club back in the right direction.

Themes around the doc to consider:
- Life after football (examine how Stan has had a successful career after football)
- The harsh reality of football (looking into Southend's rapid decline in the last 2 seasons).
- The High's and Low's of professional football.

Then follow 1 home game in particular to perhaps measure wether Stan has managed to improve the club with the appointment of the new manager that he helped appoint at Southend and if the club is now heading in the right direction.

With Stan’s love and appreciation of the club established an idea for a nice sequence to help further build his character arc would be to follow Stan walking into the stadium and out onto the pitch a chance of reflection for Stan and how his career in football has come full circle and is now back at Southend making an impact off the pitch. Also presents a chance to film a sequence perhaps starting off in the car driving to the ground ending with Stan on the pitch and also a chance to ask questions to him in a different environment than that of the main interview.

We have already discussed this of course, and you have expressed good themes to pursue, but don’t forget the main theme here: why is he there? What is it about this club that he loves? Why has he put himself in the firing line here? What motivates him to do this? The other themes will evolve naturally from this. I like this idea and if you can secure access to Stan, this has the making of strong doc. Good start

An archive style of documentary surrounding Southend United's 2015 league two playoff final win against Wycombe at Wembley.

A dramatic game which saw Southend equalise in the last minute of extra time to take it to penalties which they would go on to win to get promotion into League One. The dramatic nature of the game will help bring the documentary to life with how high the stakes were in the game and the tense tight nature of the game will present that dramatic feel.

Access to archive footage will be essential to the success of this project, Sky Sports will hold the rights to the footage, contact will be made with Sky Sports and it will be made clear that the footage will be used for the use of my assignment and for nothing more and that limited people will see the documentary as well. As well archive footage from fans filming inside from the ground which capture the fans reaction to the goal and the penalty win would also fit this piece nicely and contact would need to be made with whoever captured such footage.

A participatory style of documentary would help to bring this idea to life, 2 players from the starting XI of the final and as well a fan who was in attendance of the final, and as well the lead club Journalist Chris Phillips will all help to bring the story of the final to life.

The 2 players in the starting XI chosen to be in the documentary can go through the emotions and relieve the final, an example would be when reliving the goal to take it to penalties have the 2 players explain their emotions and feeling at that specific moment, potentially even show the players those moments during the interview and capturing their reaction.

Themes to explore in the documentary would the pressures of a final- regarding the players how did they deal with the build up to the final did the occasion get the better of them in the build up or did they manage it well. The highs and lows of football- how at one moment Southend faced losing the final and remaining in League 2 for another season to suddenly winning the final and heading to the new challenge of League One. Other themes will naturally develop in the master interviews potentially being the camaraderie of the team that year and so on.

The spectacle of playing at Wembley is something that can also be explored in the documentary, B-roll of Wembley is something that hopefully shouldn't be too hard to be given permission to film and something that would go nicely along with this.

An Archive style documentary following the 2015 League 2 Playoff final between Wycombe Wanderers and Southend United.

A compelling story due to the high stakes on offer in the game but as well the drama that took place in the game, with Southend equalising in the 122nd Minute to take it to Penalties which they would go onto win.

Themes to follow will be centred around Southend United as the story will be told from their POV, what promotion meant to the club, what a loss would have potentially done to the team. What the success of the final did for the players career's.

Access to Interview Subjects to be sorted in Early January, placement with Southend United will give me access to players who still play for the club from 2015 and as well contacts with the goalscorer Joe Piggot will hopefully secure access to an interview.

Filming to be organised for Early February.

As well access to archive footage of the game will need to be secured, Southend may have the footage, if not will need to be secured from Sky Sports.

Documentary will use a participatory mode, utilising interviews from 2 players from the squad, as well as a fan who was in attendance at Wembley.

Ethics-Copyright laws need to be considered with regards to the rights of the footage (The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988). Ofcom Section 7 fairness and Section 5 due accuracy will also need to be followed.

Both Coker and Timlin took penalties, with contrasting results (with Coker having his pen saved) therefore I can share both sides of the emotion that come with the penalty shootout

Access was in place to interview the captain of Southend United John White, however a few weeks before the interview was scheduled to take place he moved to a club based in Dorset on loan, therefore I had to approach both Ben Coker and Michael Timlin for interviews which have been succesfull to make up for John White not being in the documentary.

Ben Coker and Will Atkinson's were completed within a week of each other and access to them was relatively easy. However the access to secure Michael Timlin was significantly harder as I was in contact with his club Dulwich Hamlet who were trying to set up the interview for me, the process of doing this was long and tedious at times but I persevered through and got the interview secured.

The next step is to now start the editing process of this documentary
