Workshop 1

From my first lesson of contemporary, I was very unexpected on how I would be dancing with a different dance teacher and people in the class. When warming up I focused on my breathing correctly when raising my heart rate in order to keep my body warm. When starting the floor sequence the class as a whole was shown the piece from the right side. Due to this I able to pick up the choreography quickly yet I wanted to make sure all my moves were correct. By doing this I went through the choreography flat out and checked with a partner whilst others were performing. However, when we was told to do the choreography from the left hand side I found it very confusing as I was not able to run this through with my teacher. By performing this I can now ensure to work through the piece from both sides with a partner and practice the moves in our own time. I also learnt that I shouldn't never rely on the teacher, the person in front of me or running through it in my head as I should be familiar with the choreography.

Workshop 2

In today's class, i learnt that when dancing it's is vital that you have strong pelvic floor muscles as it is very beneficially. In order to strengthen these muscles I learnt that you squeeze your muscles 10-15 times in a row. Throughout all my lessons I aim to strengthen my pelvic floor by doing this in lesson times and in my Spare time as it is very helpful to make me a better dancer as a whole. On the other hand, i am also aware that it is vital to be spatially aware whether on my feet or on the floor. An example of this from the lesson was when we was doing the floor sequence we start on our backs and changing legs to make a circled movement on the opposite direction so it comes to our arms. When doing this sequence I aim to strengthen my arms so when I kick my legs in the air and swap them I am stable and strong to hold I presentable leg lift.

workshop 3

At the start of the lesson, I recognised that movement comes from different parts on your body whether it's your circling your foot or moving your arms up and down. By proving this in the lesson I used different body parts, shapes and levels to try and write my name. We also used a crayon technique where different parts of our body were used as a stimulus. By doing this I was able to change direction, use the space and travel through the air or on the floor. Throughly the class i used the best of my ability to make sure I applied this technique. From also doing this task I was able to understand when travelling you should use the whole space provided so you are able to practice more and be able to move more effectively.

A weakness I plan to work on is to be able to shift all my weight onto one leg after doing a pirouette as it's makes the sequence more effective and effortless.

workshop 4

From this contemporary lesson, I was able to recognise that the right emotion needed to be emphasised should always be put correctly to give the direct feeling accurately within a dance piece. Furthermore, I had a more understanding that it is essential when given a piece of material the specific movements in the choreography must flow together and not feel like a start-stop movement in order of the material to be clear and follow smoothly.

Within this contemporary lesson, I specifically asked a question, "would you be able to do the sequence with us?". From asking this I now understand the key point is not to remember the dance but to be able to work on it yourself and recognise that depend on the teacher. Many ways on supporting this is by practicing over and over and making sure to never mark choreograph and too always give maximum effort even when running through as you then familiar with the movements.

Workshop 5

During this lesson, I was able to apply my corrects from the lesson before which was using the correct head placement to moving in different directions without facing the direction I am moving to. By doing this Craig helped us to visualise having an eye on each part of your head. Moreover, by doing this when going through the floor sequence I was able to more more efficient throughout the sequence when performing the variety of movements. Throughout my contemporary lessons I struggled when doing corner work by travelling. To hopefully improve on this I will practice in lessons and to book the studio to practice using the space more rather then travelling a sequence on a spot.

Workshop 6

In today's lecture, I am able to reflect that when doing floor work there are many movements such as happy cat, monkey jumps and leg swings Which helped me to move in and out of the floor whilst shifting my weight. A strength of mine in this lesson was how I managed to use my kinaesthetic awareness so that the locomotion of the movement can become more natural. To further develop this phrase, I will next rather perform with more emphasis on certain parts of the body through my physical focus whilst performing with flair.

My feet must be pointed with my legs turned out in order to plies in 1st, 2nd and parallel efficiently. To further develop, I will continue to work on my leg strength so I am able to show the different levels of height when demonstrating clearly a grounded, middle and high jump.

Workshop 23
Due to reflecting today, I must always ensure I have full control over my body and using my breath can develop and enhance a movement. Due to now knowing the correct counts in our phrase I can now turn my counting into breath whilst still extending. When cutting the space in certain aspects of the rep I must demonstrate clearly if I am doing a sharp dynamic as variety of other dynamics can change the intention.

Workshop 22
I am now able to know that flexibility and strength work together to benefit me so I must work or building both to be at the same level. Due to having a natural flexibility, rather then 'improving' my flexibility I will learn how to use my given flexibility as it can only ever improve by 10%max. I must also know when travelling across the room doing monkey jumps on each side how to know when to relax and when to engage my body.

Workshop 24
From today's lesson we worked on how to combine our skills of strength, co-ordination and flexibility so I could move throughout the flow with ease and efficiency when weight exchanging and taking a moment to find my balance. In order to progress, I must understand he theory behind the practical asit helps a dancer to fully understand. When shifting weight and travelling from the back on both sides it is vital that I apply my kinaesphere to challenging myself realistically.
