The EC students at our middle schools are doing a great job keeping up with their classwork, and seem to be more at ease completing work online than some of their non-disabled peers. Our teachers are taking personal time to enroll in digital learning classes to better their implementation of virtual learning. Big shout out to our technology community for stepping up with opportunities for free hot spots outside our schools, for no cost increased access and data on phone plans, and more. Thanks to our school tech and media for working to get Chromebooks in the hands of those that had no other device to use for remote learning. Major praise and appreciation for teachers working through various modalities to reach all students: online classroom, Google Meet, by phone call or text, email, by hard copy instructional packets (with much more than just worksheets) Teachers' attitudes have been great through these trying times in a rural county that started without the resources or infrastructure to initially provide equitable instruction. Great strides have been made.

Gaston County has been working tirelessly to provide SDI remotely and to connect to students and families virtually! Teachers have developed creative ways to have students participate in EBP activities and programs for both math and literacy. Some examples are use of interactive slides for "Move it, Say it", delivery of programs such as Letterland using app smashing for rainbow writing, and meeting with students in groups and individually to teach and practice specific and targeted decoding and math skills. Beyond the many PD opportunities that have been created and used during this time, the RRtCP team is developing a booster session for the cohorts who are only 1 day shy of completing the course. We plan to take them through completion of the Learning Tasks including administering the San Diego Quick assessment virtually as well as reviewing the content from the first four days in preparation for day 5 and the post-survey. We thank everyone for all their hard work and dedication!!

We welcomed our new director, Dr. Elizabeth Mitcham on February 28th. On March 16th we began our journey of e-learning in a virtual world. Dr. Mitcham has incredibly lead our department through this time by collaborating with district teams to build equity and break down silos, which I know will continue as we move forward. Our support staff has worked extremely hard to build resources, tools and support for our teachers, as well as, parents. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to create environments, which we learned quickly could not be like those in the brick and mortar building, to reach out to students, teach our students, and support our students. We have continued to collect data and hold meetings as needed.

Things to highlight: PLCs for teachers teaching Extended Content Standards & OCS; PLCs and continued support and resources for our Classified Staff; Canvas courses created with resources for K-12 for Extended Content Standards & K-12 General Content Standards: EC; District-wide PD for all staff including classified; Parent FlipSnack for Remote Learning that includes Social Stories, Communication Boards, etc.; Continued Training for SLD, Best Practices, etc. and much more!

We give a BIG SHOUT OUT to all staff that are working to make this a valuable learning time for students and for granting grace while we create this learning environment!
