The people who were involved in the Salem witch trials were Bridget Bishop who died on June 10, Sarah Good who died on June 19, Martha Cory who died on September 22, Sarah Osborne who died on May 10, 1692, in jail.  The Salem Witch trials are when the 19 “witches” were hanging, and many other people were imprisoned in the Salem Village in the Massachusetts bay colony. What happened at the Salem Witch trials was people were killed when they were practicing the Devil’s magic, and then ten of thousand women were killed. The Salem Witch trials started in September of 1692. The cause of the Salem witch trials is Two young Salem Village girls, Betty Paris, age nine, and her eleven-year-old cousin, Abigail Williams, engaged a West Indian slave woman named Tituba to help them know their fortunes. Over several weeks and months, the two young girls have strange behavior. The girls were getting into Holes, creeping under Chairs and Stools, and Reverend Parris learned about the magic seances with Tituba and it was no simple physical sickness, but the work of more sinister forces. The physical sickness spread and other young girls were afflicted.  On February 29, 1692, the girls identified two local white women and the slave of Tituba as the witches who were causing them such pain. The Salem witch hunt was getting started. After it started, more women were getting hung and getting put in jail. Witches get hung because they were using witchcraft. When witches started using witchcraft, their punishment was death because the stakes were high and evidence had to be solid. It was not easy because the contract between the Devil and the soon-to-be witch took place inside the witch’s mind. The most sought-after type of evidence by the courts was the admission of guilt.
