Their main job is to understand and comprehend the laws of The United States. The Judicial Branch is just one part of our government that contain a lot of checks and balances to make sure no one has more power than someone else. They normally hear about 80 cases per year and these cases have to be hand chosen. Supreme Justices average to be about 60 years old and when they are appointed, they are allowed to stay until they retire, die, or commit a crime. We have only impeached a Justice once and that was in 1805. The President decides who he wants to appoint and the senate votes on it. There are normally nine Justices on the Supreme Court but as of right now we only have eight due to Antonin Scalia dying in 2016. President elect Donald Trump will be the one to nominate the next Justice.
