What really surprises me is the high percentage of teachers (64%) for whom TET-SAT is just a confirmation of their level of competence in using ICT. What's more, for 28% of teachers TET-SAT showed a lower level of competence than the self-assessed. It confirms me the idea that the test group has been accurately selected (even though in a randomised way after the first selection) in order to work with teachers who have already a critical vision and idea of their competence and pedagogical use of ICT at school.
Knowing that, it is obvious that my first answer to the survey is not right, because I thought about a more varied sample of teachers...

I was surprised to read that 30% of teachers did not partecipate to TED SAT due to lack of time ... it does not take so long! I think rather that the real reason is that they do not think ICT is really useful or they are afraid of it. This is confirmed by the results concerning the difference between the scientific teachers' approach compared to the teachers of literary subjects. That's exactly what happens in my school. Teachers of mathematics, physics or science understand the importance of ICT in teaching and use it often. Instead, the teachers of the literary sector refuse the new technologies, and they consider them harmful for teaching. In reality this happens because they do not know them and, unfortunately, often, "they do not want to know them". In fact, with many efforts, I was able to convince several colleagues to participate in a course about the use of tools for teaching (concept maps, timeline, evaluation rubrics, e-books, Gsuite, padlet etc ..) and, after the initial retrosies, now they are finding them interesting and are learning to use them.

I've found Giovanni Abbiati's 4th video very interesting because of three main points:
1) older teachers revised their TED competences more than younger ones;
2) women revised them more than men;
3) the test group results showed a little bit less enthusiasm about their own TET competences than the control group.
This means that TET-SAT has had in general terms an impact of critical revision and has stimulated self-reflection , particularly as far as older women teachers are concerned (by the way, I'm one of them!)

User Profiles A and B These results did not surprise me. They correspond to what I have observed in Portugal, namely in events where teachers and researchers participate: most cases in research or practices presented by teachers are in the STEM. The reasons can be several, namely a greater similarity between curricular that makes possible the creation of common resources and made available in platforms like Go-Lab. But they are, in my opinion, worrying results, so a relevant area of MENTEP intervention may be the B user profile. Feedback I was surprised to see that it received from the TET-SAT the same level as the self-assessed level in the Benchmark Survey. I thought the result would be much lower. But if we cross this variable with that of the number of volunteer respondents, I fear that these are the ones that have more ICT skills. The impact evaluation results show that TET-SAT leads teachers to develop more informed and critical assessments of their TET competence It does not surprise me. It's a good idea this online course. In fact many teachers can using ICT in their teaching and use it in their classrooms.

It is nice that TET-SAT makes a positive effect on teachers. I am also not surprised that 15% of teachers has a problem of using TET-SAT as a new assessment tool because as they say there are too many work hours, no technological devices at home or at their school or maybe they have a negative view on ICT.

i think this test will let others to know the important of ICT in learning

I am glad that TET SAT affected the teachers positively. They had a chance to evaluate themselves. They noticed that they should use ICT in classes.

I have been wondering why Germany did not participate in the project. But as we teach 26 hours a week, we would need a new category all to ourselves: Teacher C or D? I hope somebody shares this information with the German government as that is where some assessment is badly needed.

Certainly a greater reflection on what I was doing in the classes, the test forced me to do it. I have much more to do but at the same time I think I am on the right track, both for myself and as an example for my colleagues. Obviously I can not think of having arrived but of being only at the beginning.

After using the TET-SAT, teachers tend to have a more critical perception of their level
of TET competences. Their self-assessed ICT ability decreases (especially among older
teachers and women).
Moreover, teachers who used the TET-SAT showed more critical views on ICT in teaching
and learning
Carla Langella, Italy
Carla Langella, Italy
An increased critical attitude towards my skills in the didactic use of ICT was the main result after I took the TET-SAT, so I am not surprised. The teacher profile is a question policy makers should work on: obviously younger teachers are the ones who are motivated in using ICT in their teaching, but in Italy we still have a high percentage of teachers who are over 50 AND not willing to change their teaching habits.
It is also related to TIME: any changes cost time, but it is not given enough value in our school system.
Erika, Italy

I think that teachers who made the Test overstimated their competences. It's very important for every teacher to know another way for our job. I'd like to propose the TET-SAT to my colleagues

Although I consider that TET-SAT might be a little more detailed, I also consider that it has a great heuristic power, which is greater if the teacher already has a more detailed notion of what is behind each of the sentences.

These were results that I expected in general. Surely the critical spirit of the teachers increases considerably after using this tool. Man always think that it takes a good deal of balance in the use of ICT.

My first reflection on the results of the MENTEP research is that we need to work on teachers profile B: teachers of humanities subjects and
who has a low level of ICT self-assessed ability, they should be encouraged and motivated.

I am not surprised that many teachers think that the tool was easy to use and that it provides with valuable feedback. I also understand that having positive or negative views on ICT is crucial to use the TET-SAT tool, on the contrary I find a bit surprising the fact that time constraints can be considered the main reason for not using it.
The fact that a large group of teachers received the same or a higher level is positive.
Stefano, Italy
Stefano, Italy
The Time question is crucial. To start using a new tool, digital or not, you need time to become acquainted with it. The fact that - i am talking about my country, italy - teachers are overloaded with compulsory extra tasks, makes really difficult to find the time to efficiently face something new. This is not to try finding an excuse, but it is an extra data i’d like to consider next to the B teacher profile.
I think it is a meaniningful and positive data the 64% of teachers that got from the tet-sat the same level as the self assessed in the benchmark survey.

I believe that the results of the research show us that the use of TET-SAT is positive for teachers, because through them they can self-evaluate better. Realizing where they need to improve in order to use TIC in their classes.
In addition, the surprising result of the survey shows us how difficult it is to improve the use of TIC in teaching.

The result clearly shows that teachers appreciate the use of technology in their learning/educational environments. TET-SAT is a good tool to access this reality. I was actually expecting a higher use of technology, but in fact many schools still aren´t equiped or the teachers don't take maximum profit of the ITC they have available. However it's clear that most of us want to learn more and to use ICT to increase better and more fullfyling results in our students and in our professional practices.

The best consequence of the TET -SAT research was probably that the subjects showed a much more critical assessment of their competences after seeing the survey results. I expected teachers to overestimate their ICT skills, as I also did! However, the TET-SAT has shown to be a powerful means to stir self-awareness and a critical approach to one’s own competences. The real hindrance to the use of ITC, in my opinion, comes from two main problems:

Here I am, one of the 28% with lower level of ICT competencies. The fact that too many teachers have, just, confirmed their skills it is a lit bit surprising, especialy, because of the random selection. 1. I dont know where to place my discipline: scientific or humanistic?

3. Older teachers have less confidence with ICT, even if they are often more attentive to the methodological content than to the spectacular aspects.
4. Who doesn't have devices at home can not use them at school: to use the ICT you have to prepare a lot of material at home ...

I've found Giovanni Abbiati's 4th video very interesting because of three main points:
1) older teachers revised their TED competences more than younger ones;
2) women revised them more than men;
3) the test group results showed a little bit less enthusiasm about their own TET competences than the control group.
This means that TET-SAT has had in general terms an impact of critical revision and has stimulated self-reflection , particularly as far as older women teachers are concerned (by the way, I'm one of them!)

I think a few colleagues in my school have heard about the MENTEP project. I will propose them to perform the test and analyze the results, but I fear they will be lower than those highlighted in the videos.

I am very curious about the age of the profile A in relation with the age of the profile B. As for the rest, the results seem predictable and I find similar results in my experience. Thank you

I share the same attitude and feelings of sample teachers who did the TET SAT test. Before doing the test I believed to have a medium level in ICT competences, but after the test I realized how much I have to work in order to use my technological competences in teaching.

I am glad that most teachers use the TET-SAT tools for self-regulation, self-reflection and self-assessment as a measure to be implemented in their pedagogical practices

As almost all the course members have already said, reading I was surprised by the fact that teachers tend to overestimate their abilities.

I have to admit that initially I was very pessimistic as I thought that the evaluation of teachers was not positive because I think that not enough teachers use technologies in thieir classes. In my school my colleagues are still a little reluctant to do that They need to be convinced and driven to use new technologies. They are still a little afraid on technology.

Two aspects particularly struck me among those reported by the experimentation data:
the first that the percentage of teachers available to take the test is higher (50% against 15%) among teachers who already use the ICT;
the second that teachers who used TET-SAT showed more critical views on ICT in teaching and learning, especially those who started with a very high self-assessed TET competence.

What I found really surprising was the fact that 75% of teachers found the tool easy to use. I thought that this number would have been under 50 %. Really glad to have read that

I was surprised that 64% of teachers received from the TET-SAT the same
level as the self assessed level in the survey. Then I was surprised to learn teachers of a scientific subject have highest probability of using
the TET-SAT [50%] than teachers of humanities subject [15%]. If i think about the situation of my school I should think a score exactly up side down.

I do not foresee that teachers are aware of these issues and that they are aware that they need to devote time to such practices ...

I was very surprised by the results presented ..
my consideration about the use and knowledge of ICT was much higher and you can see from the first test I compiled.
after reading the PDF related to the survey I became aware that perhaps the colleagues with whom I work are very competent.
I agree that colleagues in science subjects are more willing to adopt ICT.
however I believe that my colleagues in humanities have a greater interest in the use of these tools at this time.

the result that I liked the most is 8% "achieved a higher level compared to the level assessed"

Teachers in scientific field are more willing to approach ICT than those ones in Humanistic.
30% said they didn't take part because of lacking of time.
I think ICT makes many teachers fear, still today.
I was surprised that
I was surprised that teachers tended to over-estimate their abilities. I thought that we teachers have a good sense to rate one's own skills.

I think that the percentages reported by the research are significant numbers:
• The tool was easy to use (75%)
• The feedback page was useful for evaluating them
skills (69%)
• TET-SAT helped them evaluate theirs
competence (64%)
• The TET-SAT has helped them to rethink the use of
ICT in teaching (62%)
This confirms that only teachers who do not know TET-SAT do not use it, others use it and find it simple but effective too.

I agree with
Elena Pezzi because it is rearly interesting 28 /100 received from the TET-SAT a lower level than the self assessed level indicated in the Benchmark Survey.
Elena Pezzi, Italy
Elena Pezzi, Italy
What really surprises me is the high percentage of teachers (64%) for whom TET-SAT is just a confirmation of their level of competence in using ICT. What's more, for 28% of teachers TET-SAT showed a lower level of competence than the self-assessed. It confirms me the idea that the test group has been accurately selected (even though in a randomised way after the first selection) in order to work with teachers who have already a critical vision and idea of their competence and pedagogical use of ICT at school.
Knowing that, it is obvious that my first answer to the survey is not right, because I thought about a more varied sample of teachers...

As already supported by other Italian teachers on the platform, the results of the TET reflect very much the dynamics present in the Italian school, especially where the teachers are not very young and teach literary and anthropological subjects.
The younger teachers who deal with scientific subjects are more open and available towards research and experimentation in the educational field.
The innovative teaching methodologies, flanked by new technologies, are rarely used, but above all not very well known and there is not even the intention to implement them. Even the technologies used daily by students are not often used as tools, as their potentials are not known.
A generalized TET application would be an excellent tool to have a clear idea of skills and a perfect starting point for a concrete and effective targeted training plan, but it would then be necessary to see if the teachers would form without a general policy of compulsory in addition, another question mark is given by the freedom of teaching, so that the application in the classes should also be verified.
Another problem is the complicated situation of technology in schools, which should be implemented.

The results state that about 2/3 of the respondents got results in line with their initial assessment. It is normal because they know that they are not that good with technology and they see TET-SAT useless. Also teachers with heavy workload will not even want to waste their time with a test tool about technology. Teachers who are interested in technology and self development will use TET-SAT. The results also shows that TET-SAT is a good way to self-criticize themselves and try to improve their ICT usage at school.

The participants where volunteers, ICT adopters, teachers that use ICT in their classrooms. If the survey was mandatory and all the teacher had to answer, including those that do not use ICT, than I would agree that 7.5 was in fact very high. With this sample, 9 or even 8.5 (90% or 85%) would be a very high satisfaction. Probability of using TET-SAT: I completely agree that 50% of probability of use TET-SAT by a cohort that favour so much ICT is a small result so something is missing. Teachers’ average TET-SAT score: how come the more enthusiasts, the ones with the highest levels of competence only get Average??
