In Mexico we would have wished to have as many opportunities as we have here.  Put in your effort to graduate. We’re here to motivate them.

Work hard, take advantage of his studies.  Field work is hard, cold, have to show up every day anyway. 

Improve statistics = lower SES…help them so they don’t have low SES in the future.

Nothing wrong with field work, but we want more for them students.

Not sure what to study but I want to do something different.  I had really bad grades before 9^th grade, now I have a good grades.  I have to have more opportunities and a career in the future.

I want to focus on school so I get a good job, graduate.  I have to show up and I want my parents to be proud of me.  I want to start my own family.  I want to make sure I’m earning my credits.  May want to graduate early.

Mechanic, not sure, doesn’t want to work outside.  

Before 9^th grade, didn’t understand much English. Some students give up, but he is motivated by it.

Must be an intentional effort to include parents. If we don’t work together, it doesn’t get better.

All messages in English.  I would like them in Spanish (Tardy, late to school)

Students receive SPED, case manager is providing a lot of support.  Really helping him.  Mom notices a teacher isn’t helping, I make sure to tell the teachers to help.  How can I help.  I don’t want him to be struggling.  Working to do better than her parents.  She didn’t get a lot of help from school or parents in high school. 
Dropout rate is better – necessary to stay on students so they stay in school.

Graduates have improved.

We know as parents that we have work to do too.

We need schools to help us get motivated to do more.

Differences between staff and student demographics.  When I see the Hispanics % of staff for 20-21, I wonder about previous years.  Families of Hispanic heritage if they’ve been I the same issues, use your influence to support and help families.  We need to see examples that will help. Families sometimes don’t understand what comes home because of language.

What opportunities exist for students to build their leadership abilities?

From a young age learn to lead, listen, before speaking.

We like there are a lot of opportunities in our school, help, tutors.

Continue strengthening our schools the boys love school – they feel like it’s their 2^nd home.

Families had other priorities or barriers because of lost jobs.

Some parents think its more important to work than study.

Son with autism will have the support he needs to succeed. Specifically more adult support on the special needs bus.

Opportunities for daughter to try new things.

Daughter has experienced some neanness because of her size.

Hopes – our children will go to college and find better economic future!

There is interest in understanding more online supplemental education programs.

Respecting all people and differences is so important. Its great to see that in the plan. 

Increase more awards & recognition for our students. This is the time they need that extra motivation.

We need more socializing opportunities and clubs and extracurricular activities in the elementary schools. We would like more beyond choir, band, and orchestra.

I have seen growth when you contract teacher well prepared.  In high school, my son found motivation and grew academically with the support he needed.  Culture and community included.  Student learned, but the teacher also learns from the students.  They see the students potential, growth in instruction and growth in experience.

We are missing after school supports. It would be great to offer tutoring, or other services to continue engaging students. Some extracurricular activities for elementary.  The arts can help focus students and prevent mischief.

How can we catch up children who are behind?

Trying to communicate is the challenge.

Parents do not apply for jobs because they think they have to speak English.

Love seeing bilingual support when we call. Appreciate that my child rides the bus, gets fed at school.

Inclusive culture:

Teachers are kind, welcoming for meetings.

Feels more supported in SalKeiz than in Gervais.

Bilingual school = very important.

Students are happier and more motivated in Keizer, than at another SalKeiz elementary.

More involvement with cultural events, families coming in, ect.

3^rd & 5^th grade scores are high, improving.

Students don’t want to attend or families don’t want to send them after the pandemic.

Sense of belonging decreases from 5^th to 6^th grades. Students feel less connected in middle school.

Parent observed that is due to students being at home so long.

I know many families struggled and many students were not ready/prepared for school which affects attendance.
