I think social media influencers have a great amount of power, due to the fact that a good percentage of their audience is in fact rather young. To be an influence to young adults is a large responsibility because of how easily young adults can be influenced. It’s almost like the old Spider-Man quote, “with great power, comes great responsibility”, obviously cheesy, but very true in the instance of being a social media influencer. I think the fact that social media influencers are present in today's youthful society, is amazing. Growing adolescents have role model-like people to look up to. Especially in the situation of a young adult missing a sibling figure to really guide them as a young adult, they can look up to their favorite influencers.

I believe social media influencers have negative impacts as a whole. It affects the mental health of people. Especially because teenagers are in a vulnerable state they will compare themselves to other if they feel they are not good enough. Social media does not give realistic perceptions of people's image, causing people to think that it is the standard of what someone should look like. This leads to unhealthy habits of kids.

I believe that social media influencers have a negative influence on mental health. They show off their plastic and unrealistic bodies and make people want to look like them. At the end of the day its pretty unrealistic for a person thats not rich to look like that, so it causes alot of confidence issues and mental health problems with people.

Social media can be used as a way to share with friends and families but other times it's for entertainment purposes. Many post in social media and are pressured to also use a form of face tune which can morph their body or face to look a certain way. Females especially are very pressured to be a part of the silent standard of having to look a certain way.

Throughout my personal experiences and what I have seen Social Media influencers can have a positive and negative outcome.

Video/Streaming Services:

If you’re watching a social media influencer who is doing questionable, disruptive, or dangerous acts for the entertainment of others I have mixed feelings about it. As a viewer I would most likely enjoy it, however, if children who have not yet matured watch someone performing these acts it may influence them indirectly to fall in their shoes.

However, some social media influencers may motivate people through hard times and help cope with anxiety/depression or even with weight loss and personal fitness.

Modeling:

Models are a great way to advertise products such as clothing, cleansing, and body care products.

Models can also promote fitness and a healthier lifestyle. However, while they may be motivating, there are times where individuals look at models and start body shaming themselves which can lead to disruption of mental health.

Influencers themselves:

Social Media influencers have a fan base who expects continuous content. They also have a lot of people who hate and try to shame or bring their content down. The combination of both of these factors usually stress the influencer out which also can lead to mental health issues..

This leads me to be indifferent about Social Media influencers as a whole.

Many influencers become popular because of the content they make and sometime the way they look. If you look at many of these popular influencers, many of them appear to be living the perfect life while looking perfect. That is not always the case as many are popular for comedy and appearing to being normal. If you do look at certain accounts either on Instagram or tiktok, the ones that have the most followers look like models which does help in the increase in followers. A normal person could do the same video and still not get as many views.

There is a lot of factors that lead influencers to become a huge sensation around the world. First off it is the influencer them self, they have to put a lot of effort and consistency into creating content that appeals to the viewers they want to target. Another factor is recommendation engines and algorithms. Some influencers have to be patient and consistent with these algorithms as most of them are unpredictable. Once a video or stream starts to get attention and get into the algorithm thats when their platform grows the most. These recommendation engines start sending and recommending their videos to a similar audience which allows the influencer to gradually keep growing.

An influencer can make whatever type of content they enjoy, there will always be an audience that has similar likes. The hardest part is reaching out to that audience and making yourself known.

In my opinion, humans are always looking for a role model. Because social media has become a worldwide trend, social media influencers are typically people who have lots of followers and promote fun, healthy lifestyles. This causes their followers to have desire for a similar life and be drawn towards the same products and routines as the influencers. Furthermore, society is so technologically based that social media is one of the biggest advertisement platforms. Therefore, social media influencers gain their power and influence by taking advantage of this large platform to promote their lifestyles to people who are looking for a role model to give them tips on life.

I think because as people we are fascinated by the things that we don't have or the lifestyles that other people live. Everyone wants what they don't have or act in the way that they don't act. That makes the content of these influencers more entertaining to watch. People are also fascinated by influencers because they're just ordinary people that grab the of attention of people by doing simple or crazy things. Anybody has the possibility of becoming an influencer because they see themselves in these influencers. People see the value in becoming an influencer for the fame and money.

I think humans/society actually hold ressentment for others who are living their own so called "dream". These content creators who join these "content houses", are actually marketers who create a persona who is living a dream life. This tends to pull in a large audience who then look up to fulfill their wants. I believe that humans hold envy for those who are doing what they desire. Sort of like a jealousy. I think that society gives these influencers so much attention subconsiously, i think humans obsess over these influencers so much to try to almost become them, that they dont even realize that theyre giving them clicks, and views, and likes.

I think its fair to say that these social media influencers do negatively impact their followers mental health, but I think it is unfair to accuse these influencers of purposely harming followers mental health. I think that humans already have a self perception of how they should physically look, which is arguably already a flaw in humans. I think throughout the years of having these influencers, people have gone to the length of only looking for physical features.

This could go either way as some could be a good influence through health and fitness. The other side of it is that many are negatively to have abs, a flat stomach and more defined body features. Some of these influencers use their money in order to get the body they want which is hard on the viewers to believe that is the standard. The need to look or live like these influencers can cause depression, anxiety, and the need to lose weight in an unhealthy way.

It is also the way we perceive their content, they could be inspirational and I could be completely negligent to that inspiration and just focus on their looks or ONLINE life completely disregarding that goes on what off camera.

Anyone can simply click off of an influencers content and if they don't and it leads to that mental health issue it is the viewers fault.
I think it is somewhat fair to blame social media influencers for some causes of their followers’ mental health. “According to a social media report from Norwegian global influencer marketing revealed nearly half (47%) of surveyed influencers felt their job as an influencer had an impact on their mental health and 32% believes the platform gave them a “negative” impact on body image”. This quote proves that not only do their followers blame them for causing these mental health issues, but the influencers blame themselves for instilling body image issues and mental health problems in their followers. On the other hand, social media influencers also raise awareness about these issues and support their followers. Social media influencers are normal people and they try their best to display their lives in the best manner, however this has the potential to cause negative mental effects on the followers.
