It is the name given to a simple device used to produce images.
It was developed by the Muslim Arab scholar, Ibn Al-Haytham. This lead to the invention of photography. That was
in the eleventh century. In 1826, the French inventor, Joseph Niépce took the first photograph. He used a polished metal plate and an oil called bitumen, which reacts to light. After this, photographic technology developed quickly,
and taking and developing pictures became cheaper and easier. Photography studios began to pop up in urban areas, and “photographer” became a real profession. In 1900, George Eastman invented the Brownie camera, a small, portable camera that was easy to use. Before its
invention, photography was done by professionals. Now, anyone can take a photo. Though colour photography was invented in the late 1800s, colour film was not used until the 1950s. The digital
camera was invented in 1975, and digital cameras were sold in 1990. Today, more digital cameras are sold than traditional film cameras.

Who is Sherlock Holmes?
Sherlock Holmes is a character from books written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Holmes became an icon of British culture and modern detective stories. Doyle introduced Holmes in 1887 in the short story “A Study in Scarlet” and went on to write at least 50 more stories featuring the detective, as well as The Hound of
the Baskervilles (1902) and several other novels. Doyle based his character on the personality of his former teacher in medical school, Dr. Joseph Bell of Edinburgh.
Sherlock Holmes is a detective who tries to find out who committed the crimes.
There is a monument in London dedicated to him. He has a sharp mind and solves
even the most difficult and strange mysteries. He works with his friend Dr Watson, a retired army officer. Sherlock Holmes is often dressed in a coat and cap, and carrying
a pipe and a magnifying glass. He lives at 221B Baker Street in London. Holmes’s opponent is the criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty.

Denise Doxey: Its jewellery shows how worldly Nubia was. Many cultures mixed there. Ideas came from central Africa. Egypt was Nubia's neighbour. Traders came from Greece, Rome and Asia. New ways of doing things were always moving back and forth.
Nubian artists were ahead of their time. They were trying out new ideas. Some experimented with enamel. Enamel is a coating for jewellery and other wares.
Nubian jewellery-makers also liked trying new materials. Some stones came from distant lands. The plane flies at about 30 miles an hour. ● 80 percent of land animals and plants live in forests
● 2.6 billion people depend directly on agriculture
● Loss of farmable land is estimated at 30 to 35 times the historical rate
● 8 percent of the known 8,300 animal breeds are extinct and 22 percent are at risk Forests, farm lands and animals play a huge part in our daily lives. Forests rovide habitats and food for animals. Forests are part of the water cycle. Farms and animals are a source of food and livelihood. Animals are an essential part of all ecosystems. Without action, we could lose these
important resources to deforestation and land degradation. What can young people do to help make life on land more sustainable?

For a long time scientists believed that there could be no plants in the dark bottom of the ocean because plants need light. It was also thought that without plant life there could be no animal life. However, scientists descended to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean’s Puerto Rico Trench in 1964 and reported plenty of life even at the depth of
