This message applies to everyone. Those who are close to Jesus, and those who are not. The reading states, "For there is no distinction; all have sinned and are deprived form the glory of God. They are justified freely from his grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus." This means we are all sinners and we all need the Grace  of Jesus to help us; no matter who we are.

Our job is to be the best person we can be, and incorporate God into our lives in one way or another. It also says that God knew that the prophets would end up being persecuted and hated because of their beliefs.
