         <title>Neutrality proclamation- 1793</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The French wanted the US to help them in the war with Great Britain . In April 22, George Washington issued a proclamation prohibiting Americans to fight in the war. He wanted to stay neutral and not interfere with anymore problems. A few Americans managed to join the French navy; angered by the attacks, the British started to practice impressment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>George Washington wanted a peaceful solution even though many Americans were enraged by the British. He sent John Jay to negotiate and the British were willing to stay in peace. Some gains the Americans accomplished were the evacuation of British troops in American soil. Washington was able to maintain peace even though the treaty didn't stop impressment.</div>]]></description>

They later sent three agents known as X, Y, and Z. These three agents demanded a bribe and a loan. Adams was furious and urged Congress to prepare for war. </div>]]></description>

The Louisiana Purchase pleased Jefferson because it would provide cheap and abundant land for farmers. When it was bought, the size of the US doubled.</div>]]></description>

When they returned in September 1806, they gathered important information on people, plants, animals, and geography. The expedition also helped the US claim the Oregon Country.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1812, President James Madison asked Congress to declare war on Britain. The War Hawks wanted revenge for what the British did to them through the practice of impressment. They also wanted to expand the nation's power. Madison concluded that war with Britain was inevitable. Even though the British ended their policy of impressment that same year, the news came to late and the war couldn't be stopped.</div>]]></description>

They burned the Capitol and (now called The White House). Madison and his wife evacuated. They watched their mansion burn, making the night sky turn orange; fortunately a storm put out the fire.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Americans wanted access to the Pacific Ocean, but both the US and Britain based their claims on the Oregon Country. To prevent a war, the two nations agreed to jointly occupy Oregon. There were more American settlers than British settlers, so the question of who should own the land arose again. Both nations decided to divide the land, each getting a piece.</div>]]></description>

He warned that they can't interfere in United States affairs and that if any foreign expeditions challenge the new policy, it would be taken as a threat. Later called the Monroe Doctrine, it resembled to George Washington's policy of avoiding interference with other nations.</div>]]></description>
