3 Things

Being a substitute teacher in an elementary school, two things I feel that I bring to the inclusive classroom is:

1. Inspiration: Even though I am a substitute teacher, I feel that when students see your excitement to teach them something new or review a lesson they become more of themselves and willing to do what needs to get done. Also, I also try to turn every lesson into a meaningful experience whether relating it to them or relating it to myself.

2. Communication skills: In an inclusive setting there is always a need for communication with your coworkers as well as team members. Being able to decide lessons together, planning with your co workers, and making sure there is more co-teaching going on is a huge asset that I bring. Being that I am a substitute teacher, it has taught me how important it is to communicate with the teachers I fill in for and the teachers I work with in an inclusion setting or self-contained setting.

One area I would like to develop and grow in with this course is:

1. Finding out ways to connect technology with all different learning styles with the purpose of engagement and excitement in the lessons. I feel that technology can be used with all learning styles; I would just like to figure out how to connect them to auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and hands on learners.

Julie Ballantyne

Hi Julie
I think that bringing both meaningful experience and supporting coteaching is critical in assisting students who have learning disabilities in a content classroom. Hopefully the technologies that you learn in this class will carry over into the classroom to allow your students various ways to either communicate with you or to express their understanding of content. I hope you gain a lot from this class.
Dr. Gurski

Importance of Reflection

I feel the importance of reflection is not only to see where your students are struggling or need extra instruction, but also to see where you stand as a teacher on the lessons you are teaching. Teachers need to look back the lesson they taught to see how successful it was. Sometimes a teacher may put together a wonderful lesson and think it went excellent, but then realize later on that the lesson didn't go as well as they expected. All teachers try to have their student's reflect on different topics or subject being taught which is very important because than a teacher can see the knowledge and understanding that the student gained. But, teachers also need to reflect on their teachings. When reflecting, a teacher can realize what exactly what wrong in a lesson or notice what went well in a lesson. Reflecting isn't always looking for the negatives and where to improve, it is just a way for someone to look back at what went on what they need to change or keep the same. In life, you may reflect on what mistakes you may have made and how you can work on them or decrease those mistakes. It is the same in teaching, you want to reflect on the negatives and positives throughout your day so then you can see what needs to change or stay the same in upcoming years or lessons being taught.

Julie Ballantyne

I agree that you can have the best lesson and all of a sudden realize you didn't quite reach the goals for the students and then its a matter of reflecting on how to approach things from another way and have the students be a part of that process. Reflection can be for both the student and the teacher.
Dr. Gurski

In this class, there will be a lot of important information that will be given. All information is very important and can be utilized in your own classes. Pay close attention to the way technology is used and presented in this course. You will learn that all of this technology is an introduction to what can be used in your own classes also, This class will teach you different ways to work with other colleagues. The best part about this class is the class presents everything in ways that you can use it. I personally did not notice that how much this class prepares you to be like as a future teacher. Pay close attention to everything that is done in this class. It will make you a better teacher and expand your understanding of science and technology.
